Commercial Description:
Jet black in color with a dense creamy head. Deceptively dark and rich in appearance, this classic ale is light in body and low in alcohol. Roasted barley from England provides the dominant flavor of fresh coffee which shares the stage with a firm but balanced bitterness. Our Irish stout is nitrogen dispensed to create the rich, creamy head that will follow you to the bottom of your pint.

Sampled this beer at the Dundee location. Severed with a very thick creamy head which lasted the whole drink and left great lacing on the side of the glass. This stout has a very light aroma of roasted malt and was very black in color. Taste was very creamy and bitter flavor similar to a dark coffee and finishes with a great dry feeling on the tongue. Overall this was a much better Irish stout than the previous years at this location. I will probably have one of these again soon.

Pour is black with ruby highlights and a thick brown head...smell is roasty with lots of cocoa and some coffee...thin mouthfeel...roasty coffee flavor with subtle sweetness...

Draught, 3/24/08 at Downers Grove. This did not seem terribly different to me from their Oatmeal Stout. The biggest difference being a less smoky coffee like character. Pitch black, nitro foam head. Aroma of toasted malt. Dry, finishes dark roast bitter. Not as creamy as its Oatmeal cousin.

Some of the classic dry stout flavors are here...coffee, roasted coffee, and then some burnt coffee...but the watery texture and insubstantial mouthfeel did not help the experience. The finish was also classically dry, but just not enough to bring me back around again. (The style needs to be creamy and substantial to really work)

Draft Downer’s Grove- No aroma on a black body. Has an off white head. Taste of a watered down stout with ahint of roasted malt. Very bad. Too watery.
