Commercial Description:
A dark, smokey ale. A stout with an intense smokey flavor. Certainly the Birrificio's most original and the only one of its kind in Italy: love it or loath it.

Colore nero, nerissimo.Schiuma marrone spessa, cremosa e praticamente eterna. Aroma di cereali tostati e di affumicato. In bocca è leggermente asprigna, affumicata con richiami di liquirizia, spezie e nocciola, molto complessa.Malto nel retrogusto secco.Eccezionale.Una delle migliori birre italiane al momento.

Poured from tap at Birrificio Lambrate. Straight black appearance, flat with no carbonation making it more oily on the palate than smooth. Dark malty and smoky aroma. Ample head that quickly dissipated leaving no lace the rest of the pint. Not as strong as it looks and definitely wouldn’t classify this as a smoked beer. Overall very drinkable but lacks some punch in the taste, definitely not one of Lambrate’s better brews.

Bir and Fud. I am surprised to see this classified as a smoked. There is some smoke, but it is very light. More of a full bodied porter. Roasted malt. Light smoke in the aroma and in the flavor. Heavy palate and dry. No hop flavor, and that is fine.

From tap at bir and fud. Pours dark brown to black with a small tan head. Hard roasted malt, chocolate and vague butterish. Roasted malty, liqourice and chocolate. Thin body though. Dry and acidic and with a touch of butter. Ends acidic bitter and dry.

Draught, 5.0% at the brewpub. Good roasted and creamy aroma, fresh coffee. Almost black colour, red shine. Beautiful, stable, creamy light brown head, almost looks like chocolate mousse. Good roasted flavour, hint of creamed coffee. A sour/citric note that I do not much much, too. A little smoke in the finish. A very nice beer, but I am slightly put off but the sourness.

Near black colored with huge thick beige head, looks like a stout to me... Rich roasted aroma with coffee and slight chocolate. Thin to medium bodied, stoutish watery palate. Flavor is dominated by roastiness also, aftertaste dries strongly with hops. I like how this brewery uses hops.

My Bottom Line:
Chocolatey roastiness surfs the wooden smokiness of this lightly fruity and highly drinkable Smoked Stout.

Further Personal Perceptions:
-A huge nitroed head of foam thrones atop the pitch blackness.
-I believe the smoke flavor, although expressive, doesn’t last long enough to bug those who don’t love it. There is a very good Stout within.
-There is a lot of nitro in the mouthfeel, but it works quite well with this flavor profile.
-The fruitiness I perceive is in the blackberry range.

On tap at the brewpub.

ok questa per me è attualmente una delle migliori birre italiane in circolazione; bellissima a vedersi con schiuma compatta. Meravigliosa, complessa ma beverina come il demonio; con un ottimo tagliere di salumi pregiati misti. Che serata :-)
