Jan 2, 2010 750mL bottle. Pours a translucent dark red with a small light brown head that leaves no lacing. Immediately upon opening there is a complex aroma reminiscent of a sweet red wine. In the glass there are also aromas of yeast, caramel, cherries, citrus and dried fruit. The flavour is very sweet (possibly excessively so), slightly spicy with some tartness and almost no hop character at all. The alcohol is noticeable but not overt. Medium to full bodied, tingles pleasantly on the lips and tongue like a sparkling red but is not excessively carbonated, and is otherwise quite smooth with a sweet and slightly sour finish.

Dec 31, 2009 Big and spicy - If you like the unibroue yeast you will love this beer. I could go either way depending on the day, but this is on par with most really good belgium beers. Dark fruit, raisins, spice. There is a lot going on and may be a bit much for some, but I quite enjoyed it. Cheers to volcanicbeat for this beauty.

Dec 29, 2009 Almost black body with a rather bubbly but small caramel colored head. Aroma is tangy with a slight barnyard smell and notes of hay and grass. Flavors of cherry, malt, some vanilla, and some grass. Mouth feel is light especially for such a complex beer. Bitter finish that has strong staying power.

Dec 29, 2009 Bottle. Pours a deep brune body with a tan head. Vinous notes, caramel, dates, a dark fruity ester y warming, with a sweet flavor. Toffee, some butterscotch, more caramel and a modest warming. Love it.

Dec 27, 2009 Draft at High Street Grill. Poured a deep dark black body with a smaller frothy head. Aroma of dark fruit, cherries, yeast and strong alcohol notes mixed in as well. The alcohol on this one isn’t hidden at all and is easily tasted mixed in with the yeast and malts. Flavors of cherry alcohol and grains dominate. Interesting but the alcohol needs to be more balanced.

Dec 26, 2009 What a plesant suprise to find this on tap at Stone. Dark like a stout with no head by the time the server brought it to the table. Lotsa seriously tart deep sweetness and sourness. No pucker however. Darker and deeper in the mouth. Lotsa malt hiding in there. Cherries and vinegar. Yumminess. I need Weeheavy to explain this one to me.

Dec 23, 2009 the best Unibrou i’ve had so far. it made it all the way to NZ without tasting old and musty. nice esters and phenols on a firm malty backbone with some restrainted roastiness. very enjoyable the only thing I would fault this one for is that it was a bit too sweet and I’m not sure I would have enjoyed the entire bottle.

Dec 22, 2009 750ml bottle in glass. Deep redish-brown with two-fingers of head. Aroma raisons and cherries, a bit of yeast. Starts strong with fruit and berries, primarily cherry. Nice unfiltered yeast in the middle, and finishes smooth again with the the berries and roasted malts. Almost devoid of hoppy bite; instead, the smoothness and rich flavors mask the high alcohol. Dangerously drinkable. Quite lovely.
