Commercial Description:
In November 1992 Maudite (the damned one), was the first strong beer to be distributed in Quebec grocery stores. Maudite is a mahogany-colored, rich-tasting premium beer that has a distinctive, complex taste. Because of the warmth it releases, this strong character beer must be served cool but not cold. Perfect with pasta, red meats, stews and spicy dishes, it also makes a good aperitif and after-dinner drink.
Maudite has a typically Quebecois name that is reminiscent of the legend of the Chasse-Galerie (the legend of the Flying Canoe). Legend has it that a group of lumberjacks struck a deal with the devil to fly home in their canoes, guided by Satan himself, to make it home in time for Christmas.
Gold medal winner in 1995 and 1996 and the Chicago Beverage Tasting Institute.

unbelievable warmth, that is the first thing i noticed after the first sip. i had this one settling in the celar for a little while before opening. great color and aroma, poured into a tulip glass, this didnt dissapoint. had it as an aperitif, after a large italian dinner, and it hit the spot. one of the best beers ive had from this brewer.

750ml bottle. Hazy and a ruby, muddy brown colour with a thin scattering of light tan bubbles across the top. Aromas of dried grapes and spiced fruit with a strong hint of alcohol, almost port like. Dry in the mouth with a medium to low bittereness. Strong alcohol taste dominates and it was a nice beer to sip and see the new year out with.

50cl bottle at home. Cloudy brown, small light brown head. toffee and faint caramelly aroma, faint sweet malts, faint alc. faint dark fruits. alc a little too distinct compared to the rest. Sort of belgian in style. spicy bitterness is a bit weird.

Dark mohogany pour with a tan head.Nice carbonation fluffs up the head. Sweet fruity aroma, yeasty. Taste is yeast, dark fruits, little sweet. Little dry at the end. Very nice tasting. Alcohol is not really noticeable. Little lacing.

12 bottle. Pours a medium amber color (light for a "dark strong") with a huge rocky off-white head that won’t go away. Slightly cloudy. Aroma is typical of the Belgian dark strong style -- rich malty sweetness, fruity esters of dark fruits (raisin, plum, prune), and little to no hop aroma. The complex taste is similar but has an unusual but pleasant sour twang as well. Moderately dry. Moderate carbonation which is low for style (should be high). Medium to full body and creamy. Some alcohol warmth noted.

Pours out light yellow with a crazy amount of head that lingers for quite a while. Carbonation still present well after pouring it. Tastes of fruit, smells the same. Very thin mouthfeel and very easy drinking. Something I’d try again.

yeasty, tangy and refreshing. It’s got a little bit of an alcohol-y thing going on. Love this one.
