Nov 28, 2009 Dark brown with a thin creamy head. Nose is a super-sweet blend of roasted malt, toast, chocolate, and strong blast of plum. Very sweet flavor, more chocolate, plum, minor roast, also hints of licorice and alcohol with warmth. Thin and rather salty with a sugary fruit finish. Pretty straightforward.

Nov 21, 2009 Bottled in 2008. Pours dark brown with off white head, mostly diminishing and good lacing. The aroma is cookie, chocolate, little coffee. The taste is big, rich, creamy with chocolate, coffee, some vanilla.

Nov 21, 2009 Pours an oily black color with a thin brown head. Aroma of chocolate, roasted malt and toffee. Taste was chocolate coffee with a balanced malty taste - lots of alcohol coming though on this one. Moderate carbonation as well. Nice brew but the alcohol is apparent and you need to be wary of this one.

Nov 20, 2009 Bottle from 06.Poured black with a thin coffee colored head. Nose has some hops and a bunch of chocolate and roasted malts. Abv is extremely well hidden in this. Very drinkable with a medium body and some light carbonation.Lots of hops. Some sweetness, but not too much.Hints of vanilla, and roasted malts, with some chocolate notes too. Mildly bitter finish.

Nov 16, 2009 22 oz. bottle from Grape & Gourmet (2009 bottle 10.82% ABV). Dark brown to black pour with a thin off-white head. Roasty dark chocolate aroma with a surprising amount of floral hops. The flavor, however, is straight bitter chocolate, bourbon, vanilla, booze, and dark roasted espresso. Absolutely incredible flavor. Nice alcohol warming. Avery is quickly becoming one of my favorite breweries.

Nov 13, 2009 (poured from 2009 22 0z bomber) Okay...not bad at all, but could be better. In my opinion, the imperial stout style is the most competitive style out there. If your beer is not exceptional beyond comparison, it will not be considered the best. Little too spicy for this style...sort of distracting. Nicely brewed, but not well balanced.

Nov 12, 2009 Dark, but not jet black, with a nice tan foam. The roasted aromas are dominant but spicy hops are noticeable. The flavor is sweet, with roasted notes dominating. The alcohol level is definitely noticed in the taste.
