As it warms it blossoms and the flavors blend better and you pick up some of the softer notes. Almost a barleywine but not as sweet. I wished it was maltier. JoeTheYounger (258), California, USA

Aroma was very piney and sweet. Taste was more hoppy, but malts also present. Pallet was smooth and frothy. Overall very enjoyable. coldmeat23 (233), Tulsa, Oklahoma, USA
| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | Nov 24, 2009 Nice clear, ruby/copper color liquid. Two-fingers of fluffy, light tan foam. Retention is very good. Lacing creates a sticky ring, all the way around the glass.
Piney, floral hops hit me hard. Light hint of caramel malts. That’s about all that I get.
A kiss of sweet malts, which is then pummeled by a fist of citrus hop flavor. Bitter, bitter hop flavor.
No sir, I don’t like it. Way too far out of balance, for me.
Strong medium body, with a nice amount of creaminess. Good carbonation level.
If you’re a hophead, it deserves a shot. If not, stay away.
It’s not for me.

| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Nov 21, 2009 22oz. bottle as Double Red Ale. Pungent, hoppy and sweet aroma, full of toffee, citrus and pine with lighter notes of alcohol, fresh flowers, pineapple, grapefruit, honey and toast. Deep, dark red-amber color, cloudy, with a very fine, lasting, ivory head and spectacular lacing. Flavor is predominantly hoppy and nicely bitter throughout, strongly spicy and piney, countered by a deeply toasted, caramel malt sweetness and background tropical fruit, red apple skin and some lingering earthy, herbal tones. Active but very fine effervescence, with a lightly oily, creamy texture and a nicely full body. Satisfying and tasty. tomthompson89 (1488), Toronto, Ontario, Canada

Flavour was the same, malty hop character. Berley31 (198), New Brunswick, Canada
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Nov 14, 2009 A: Poured a deep, dark red color, with some haziness throughout. Head is small and off-white. Some fair lacing left while drinking.
S: Some malt coming through with a whiff of caramel, but the alcohol wins the contest here... not too strong, but it’s definitely there and in your face.
T: BUT, this beer tastes much smoother than I ever would have expected from the smell. There’s some bitterness to the flavor, but the beer finishes quite sweet and malty, with a little alcohol-warmth as well. Very interesting, and great for sipping.
M: Medium-bodied and very creamy, with soft carbonation.
D: Sure, you couldn’t pound these back all night... but it’s a great beer to share a 22 oz bottle with someone and slowly enjoy. madmitch76 (619), , Essex, England
