Commercial Description:
This is a black, medium-bodied, yet robust brew with a rich chocolate flavor and dry finish. The predominate flavor characteristic, that of smooth, dark, bittersweet cocoa, lingers on the palate from first pint to last. This is a hearty brew of seven varieties of malt, including Pale, Carastan, Crystal, Brown, Black, Munich, and an especially generous portion of Chocolate malt. Mudshark Porter gains its bitterness from Columbus hops, and its gentle hop flavor from a late addition of Willamette hops in the kettle.

Draft. Pours a very dark brown color, almost black, with a deep tan head. Nice aroma of dark chocolate, roasted malts, and coffee. Tasty with a long aftertaste. Paired well with my raw oysters on the half shell.

Cask... Poured a near black with a light brown head. A nice a roasted brew with chocolate and coffee, a nice amount of hops and dark malts. The cask really helped it along.

On tap. Rich malt aroma filled with coffee, chocolate, caramel and smoke. Deep brown with a tiny brown head. The flavor is mostly sweet with a very light bitterness. Smooth milky mouth feel, mild carbonation, full bodied. This is a great Porter.

Tap at Belmont Station. Reminded me of Young’s Double Chocolate. Malty, smooth chocolate milk all the way through. Lacks complexity but I can’t say I didn’t drink it right down.

Bottle. (Remembered from past tastings) A friend of mine brought this to me from the brewery originally started by his brother. Yes I am biased here. I don’t remember much other than both my friend and his brother were first rate home brewers and I liked everything they brewed so gotta score this respectfully. I’m happy to see that so many years later this brewery lives on.

WOW! this beer is quite delicious on the cask. served just at room temperature this beer shines. Pours a dark brown with a fluffy beach foam-ish brown head. Aroma of chocolate and coffee, tastes like silk. love all around.
