Bottled at Volo. Tan head. Very enjoyable milk stout with notes of coffee. Got better as I kept drinking it. A terrific beer.

bottle. drank out of snifter. pours a nice black with a creamy beige head, somewhat bizarre for an imperial stout. aroma is of chocolate, coffee and some burnt caramel. a pleasant smokiness to the taste, and a well balanced palate. becomes much better nearer to room temperature. a good imperial stout, but not a great one. the bonus is that it comes in a 500ml bottle.

Bottle thanks to bu11zeye. The look is dark, brown to black in color, and has a beige head. The smell is roasty, coffee, malts, and chocolate. The taste is sweet, malts, roasty, and coffee.

Bottle. Pours black, with a dark, toffeeish hue, pale tan head, quickly reduced, with a persistent skim. Spotty lacing. Nose is surprisingly creamy, like coffee cream, or half-and-half, I think I would notice this even if I weren’t looking for it. Otherwise a rather dense, and I might say numb nose, even when approaching room temperature. Restrained roast, coffee, and cocoa, with a nice smoky note that is to me the hallmark of this beer’s nose, along with the dairy. Palate is big and well-balanced, with roast barley, nippy acidity, and dark fruit. Pleasant, but I was hoping for more out of this beer.

500ml brown bottle. Deep brown/black colour. Brown head is compact, slightly creamy, leaves little lacing. Nose has some noticable alcohol right off the bat, below that is some chocolate malt. Robust roasted malt bitterness, chewy, light coffee, dark choclate, pretty dry, some minor alcohol notes in the finish. Roasty, bitter aftertase. Has a finely carbonated body that is a bit light in the mouth for an impy stout. Overall, pretty good, not as rich as some impys out there, but worth drinking.

It takes a while to get the aroma, the head is large and thick and surprisingly resilient. When you do get it its a dark, almost smokey malt. Dark with just a few hairs of brownish on the square edges where the light can get through. Strong and solid dark malt flavour engulfs your mouth and goes all the way to your stomach. after you get a few sips in the 9% warms you up a bit. Or maybe its -25 out. a bit of a bubby from that tastes like malt lingers on your throat. kind of weird. A very sturdy stout, flavour starts to become more pointed as you get into it. I think thats the lactose flavour. alcohol becomes more apparent in the flavour.
