10th anniversary bottle purchased at the brewery. An impressive pour of dark chocolate brown with a nice, fluffy tan head. The aroma is that of tootsie rolls and flavors of chocolate, some vanilla, roasted malts and yeast. This beer is smooth, soft and velvety. A delicious beer with more hints of dark chocolate than a chocolate beer which to me is a great thing. Nice finish of bitter chocolate.

10th September 2008. A light stout - very light. Barely there toasted malt. Very light chocolate. A minerally finish. Very drinkable but not what was expected. Not that chocolately and not the sumptuos beer I was hoping for. Somewhat underwhelmed!

750mL bottle. Pours deep brown, almost black, with a big dark brown head. The aroma is sour and smokey with a dusting of cocoa powder. The flavor is sour up front with huge dark roasted malts that flows smoothly into dark chocolate with a. Big smokey finish.

Pours a very dark brown, almost black, with a hint of red (hold it up to the light). Small amount of dense tan/brown foam. Aroma of raisins and smokey roasted coffee, can also smell the alcohol. Taste is sweet and bitter simultaneously; chocolatey, coffee, and maybe a hint of licorice. Good stuff.

Pours a deep brownish black with a large fluffy light brown head that leaves cakes of fluffy lacing. Aroma is rich chocolate, roasted barley, caramel. Flavor is roasted malt, chocolate, coffee, with a bitter chocolate yet sweet finish. The roast is rather apparent and helps the chocolate bitterness meld with the sweetness and balances things out quite well. Good brew.

pored like any other stout in color but I was very disappointed in what I thought was going to be a chocolate explosion taste was metalic

Dark brown pour with minimal mocha head. Aroma is Belgian yeast with lactic chocolate notes. Flavor is nowhere near as ’chocolate-like’ as I was anticipating, and the mouthfeel is a little thin to be ’indulgent’. Ends with dark chocolate and light coffee bitterness. Decent, but simply not to my liking in terms of a repeat. This seems to be the trend with Ommegang for me. Good, but somehow mediocre.

Pours a big black color which lets basically no light through. Has a nice 1-finger head that loofs like frothed chocolate milk and has incredible retention and lacing. Has a nose of heavy chocolate with big malty and yeasty smells coming through. Has a bit of smoke in there, combined with a faint touch of alcohol, that gives it an almost scotch-like smell. Tastes of lots and lots of dark, dark chocolate. Some dark fruits like figs and big, sweet cherries. Light coffee notes dancing around in there. Not much of an alcohol taste, but you get the feeling it’s pretty powerful at about the halfway point. In the mouth this feels smooth, creamy and wonderful. Like a goth girls well kept favorite black velvet coat. This is a pretty darn easy drinking beer. I think it would creep up on you though, if you didn’t watch yourself.
