Brought this one but wish it was better. Tons of coffee but not much else. This had a bit of cocoa, hint of caramel, and a tint of honey. Lighter than expected... The aroma picked up charred black patent and coffee maltage with some airy, nutty character around.. deeper down was a blend of sweet and darker chocolates. The flavor found roasted coffee and cocoa at the core surrounded by a large dose of floral and catty bitterness (along with some coffee char).. a touch buttery on the back.. grainy and bitter on the finish. Medium-plus bodied with low-ish carbonation on the palate.. well-roasted.. good stuff! 1FastSTi (2580), Glendale, Wisconsin, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Dec 14, 2009 Thanks Todd. The beer pours to a pitch black body with a really tall creamy brown head. The aroma is super roasty and full of black patent with lots of hops. The flavor is charred black patent with a heavy yeast and hoppy bitterness. I didn’t really get any bourbon. The palate is medium full bodied but a little too yeasty. Coffee was good. nbutler11 (771), Phoenix, Arizona, USA

Pours espresso in color with a trim tan head. Smells predominantly of toasted malt and coffee grounds. Builds on these flavors with added notes of milk cocoa, and vanilla. Really sweet on the palate and quickly dries on the finish. Not bad, but certainly not ambitious. Bockyhorsey (2552), Mesa, Arizona, USA

Black body with tan head. Flavors of coffee, dry coco a mild sweetener and smooth on the palate. Thanks Jason rustychiles (1058), Mesa, Arizona, USA

| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 2/5 | 12/20 | Nov 27, 2009 ’08 bottle. Black, thin tan head. Nose is heavy roast malt, lightly burnt and with some sweeter chocolate and oatmeal. Flavor is similar, more sugar to lend some sweetness but again strong roast, burnt and edging on hints of plum and manure. Fizzy body only adds to the singular roast notes, drawing them out further and more towards the coffee grinds region of the spectrum. Also, there’s an off-tangerine note way down the finish. Alcohol begins emerging as it warms, lending the beer a medicinal note given its syrupy weight. Not very pleasant, polished, or nuanced, and definitely lacking complexity. neepsntatties (350), Portland, Oregon, USA

Nose... chocolate, coffee and toffee. Palate... sweet! But also tart with light bodied coffee and dark chocolate as well as a long finish.
