On tap at the brewpub during ’09 Winter Solstice. ’08 version. Poured black with a small brown head. Aroma had notes of roasted coffee, chocolate and a touch of licorice with an undertone of alcohol. Flavor began with a roasted malts and finished with a bit of bitter-sweet chocolate. The flavor covered up the alcohol amazingly well!

12 oz. bottle - 2008 vintage; dense, dark black pour with thin tan head; tons of chocolate and candy; resinous, thick, rich and chalky; touch of smoke; not really sessionable by any means, but certainly drinkable for 18%; chocolate, dark fruits, malty sweetness; quite nice, but a tad over the top in the end

jet black, nose is licorice, coffee, chocolate , really nice flavor is sweet but not sickly. flavors from the nose carry through and make this high alcohol seem a lot less

courtesy of BA trader. Summer ’09 release. Pours black, thin mahogany head, oily golden lacing. Aroma of dark malts, dark fruits, lots of booze, and roast. Flavor, dark roasted malts, some soy, dark fruits; currants with thin chocolate palate. lots of booze, finish has a thin chocolate bitterness. Slow sipper, thought it would be a little more complex.

Bottle from suzygreenberg. Thanks! Big sweet nose. Tons of dark fruit, molasses, brown sugar, some coffee, alcohol, dark chocolate, and lots of sugars. Black, some thin light brown foam around the edges, Thick and viscous stuff. Boozy, lots of dark malts - roast, coffee, chocolate, some salty soy. Thick and boozy, but still drinkable considering everything. Really soft carbonation. Solid stuff actually.

Tap at blind tiger. Poured dark as night, with a thin reddish head. Super sweet nose with lots of roasted malts and coffee and chocolate. Bubble gum sweet taste with A big boozy finish makes this a bit of a struggle. Good? Yes interesting ? Yes. do I want to drink this tomorrow ? No

Tap at Blind Tiger. Pitch black pour. The nose is crazy… absolutely loaded with intense chewy dark malts, molasses, toasted malt, cocoa and lots of heavily charred malts. Roasty and intense with a pronounced soy-like salitiness. Pepper and chewy and completely loaded with heavy char. It isn’t really complex per se, just lots and lots of dark malts. It has a lot of similarity to Dogfish Head WWS, but it seems to have a little bit less finesse.
