Commercial Description:
Stormwatcher’s Winterfest is the perfect brew to savor on a stormy Oregon Coast day. Its deep amber-red color, massive toasted malt, toffee and caramel aroma, and full-bodied malty flavor lead to a smooth, soft and warming finish. The floral aroma and flavor highlights come from Hersbrucker hops in the ’06 and Mt. Hood hops in the ’07, while a toasted malt sweetness balances a mild, subtle bitterness in the finish. Its big, rich flavor makes it the ideal complement to nasty weather!

Shared by Ogglethorp. Appearance is a deep brown with little head. Aroma is all booze--very hot. Medium mouthfeel with high carbonation for this style. The taste is overwhelmingly hot. Burnt and acetic tastes dominate this beer, with some sweetness peeking through. Not good at all at this point--I would sit this for about 2-3 more years.

Pours a murky brown with a tan head. Aroma, boozy caramel, some sweet malts. Flavor, whoa booze, caramel vanilla, a good bit of sweetness but very boozy.

22oz, pours dark ruby with tan head. Nose has bready, caramel, ripe dark fruit. Flavor is dry, prunes, pear; toffee, cookie, while alc dries the palate out a lot. Nice med body and full mouthfeel. A tasty dry English barleywine.

22oz bottle from Todd... Pours a stouty dark brown with reddish brown edges accompanied with a light tan head... Dark fruit, some pear, and even a little roast in the nose... Flavors are of dark fruits and relatively dry overall. A little roast even. Somewhat boozy as well. Mouthfeel was creamy and smooth.

thick and viscous caramel brown colored body. nose is heavy caramel malt, slight metallic cap taint and a bit of oxidation - wet cardboard is certainly present but not overbearing. hugely thick, highly bitter with rough malt texture coarse cracked barely husks awash in soured maple syrup. disappointing.

10/10/2009. 22oz bottle. Pours an ominous dark red... it almost wants to be brown. Rich intertwining aroma of fruitcake crusts and sherry. Reminds me of a slightly cleaner version of Thomas Hardy. Sweet sweet caramel, toffee and hint of toasted malt comes through in the viscous mouthfeel... long and meandering... followed by a well balanced subdued but moreish bitterness. A slight medicinal flashback from the alcohol warmth and malt sweetness doesn’t detract from this beer, it only throws an extra positive thought its way: it must be restorative. Perfect Sunday evening company with the kids asleep, dinner on its way and Arab Strap on the stereo.

In an effort to knock out the rest of my backlog, my ratings will be fairly generic and sparse. If the beer had anything special to offer, it will be noted following this disclaimer. The number ratings above are accurate based on my tasting notes. Following the elimination of my backlog, all beers will be entered in real time and will be more useful. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Special thanks to JMFG! Thick dark brown. Strong malts and toast. Sugary and thick like molasses. Great barleywine. Amazing aroma.

22 oz bottle. Dark brown, just allowing some light. A beige ring and a splotch on top. Nose is raisin, molasses and chocolate with bits of pine and mint. Medium body with a tang. Initially very tasty; chocolate, caramel and orange peel. Develops a vegetal bitterness with prominent alcohol. Better fresh or needs more aging?
