| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Nov 21, 2009 Thanks, Gerret, for this one. Pours a thick, viscous opaque black with an enormous, thick, loose milk chocolate brown head. Dark caramel malt, alcohol, sweet coffee liquor, and dark chocolate (in that order of prevalence) in the aroma. Rich, robust flavor profile which keeps all of its massive elements in balance. There is a nice earthy funk present here as well that adds valuable complexity to a beer that could have very easily turned out overbearing. This is a pleasant, authoritative, contemplative sipper. | 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Nov 15, 2009 Poured from bottle into nonic.
A - Pours a dark brown, almost black. A really nice light chocolate-colored head that is pretty frothy upon an aggressive pour. The head lingers around a bit and once it starts to disipitate it leaves a good amount of sticky lacing along the sides of the nonic.
S - Lots of coffee: really really excellent smelling coffee. Maybe some chocolate in there as well, but the coffee is pretty upfront and doesn’t go anywhere.
T - Sweet chocolate covered coffee beans is the main note I get from this one. You can tell the Civet coffee this brew was made with is superb in quality, it’s really good. Nice bitter finish.
M - Think, but not too thick. Just right for me - medium bodied. Really smooth and rich with the perfect amount of carbonation.
D - An awesome coffee stout, no doubt about it. A little pricey, which hurts the drinkability, but that’s about the only thing that I could think of for me not to drink this one whenever I’m looking one of the best coffee stouts. Nena (136), Seattle, Washington, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Nov 15, 2009 Poured black with a beige head. Aroma is coffee, toffee, alcohol, and a touch of dried cherry like fruitiness. The flavor is very bitter, coffee dominated, with some chocolate and a bit of piney hop. Has a noticeably warming alcohol finish. Very rich and thick feeling on the palate. Not as awe inspiring as I thought it would be, but this was a unique and great experience. | 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Nov 15, 2009 Bottle. Poured a deep rich black with a thin beige head. Nose is huge with roasted malts, chocolate, and lots of coffee. Deliciously drinkable with flavors that followed the nose. Rich and full flavored it has more carbonation than one might expect from this style. Great bitter finish. cexshun (66), Portage, Indiana, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 2/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Nov 14, 2009 Pours an opaque black. Rich and creamy tan head lingers for ages. Massive lacing. However, this bottle seems to have vast amounts of sediment. Lost maybe a good 20
5 of the bottle to sludge. Nose is very bready. Yeast and caramel. Strong roasted characteristics. Hint of sweet chocolate. First sip, wow. Coffee coffee and coffee. Chocolate and dark fruits. Very heavy palate. Coats thick and chewy. Carbonation a little sparkly, but not unpleasant. A really great beer. If I hadn’t lost a few dollars of the beer to sludge, I think I’d be much happier with it. AlbertC (17), Göteborg, Sweden
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Nov 12, 2009 Pours totally black and slightly thick. Tastes of chocolate and coffee perfectly balanced with some malty flavours. Enormously intense taste. A perfect stout. scoth (274), Fort Collins, Colorado, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Nov 12, 2009 Pours deep, dark, inky brown, with a medium fallow head, very good and lasting lacing. Very strong dark coffee aroma, lots of chocolate, undertones of oak, oatmeal, molasses, plum, and earth. Medium-full body, zesty, smooth and crisp, lightly dry. Flavors of dark chocolate and espresso, toast, vanilla, pepper and some dark fruit. Medium-bitter, remarkably long-lasting musky earth finish. Well balanced, powerful, big in flavor and aroma, not quite as full-bodied or malty as I was expecting.
