Nov 26, 2009 Deep golden color out of the bottle with a frothy white head. Big hoppy nose with lots of alcohol, wet wood, and candied grapefruit. The barrel adds oak and butter to this big hoppy IPA. Red grapefruit juice, hop resin, tangerine, and some apricot all over a strong, bready backbone. I am feeling every bit of the claimed 11% ABV. This is a nice way to treat an IPA with a barrel.

Nov 25, 2009 Maybe its the flight from abroud or maybe its just the barrel ageing, but i’ve been disappointed by this style before. When opening an imp ipa im looking for an extreme amount of hop flavor, this one has almost none. Guess freshness is key, which isnt combined easily with barrel ageing. It has a heavy caramel aroma though. The look is orange with a light white head. Body is full with an oily texture. Heavy sweet flavor with the bitterness and alchohol in there. Again its a heavy alchohol/caramel taste that dominates. I did enjoy it, just wished for something different.

Nov 24, 2009 22oz bottle. Pours a clear amber with a white fluffy head that falls to a frothy ring and leaves ample lacing. Big citrus and piney hop aroma with a nice oakiness and touch of vanilla. Very sweet flavor at first with caramel and orange notes. Then some oak, vanilla and some earthy flavors, followed by nice bittering piney hops through the finish. Smooth thick and delicious. Great balance and nice hop bite in the end.

Nov 18, 2009 Bottle. Pours reddish golden coloured with a fast disappearing bubbly off white head. Aromas of vanilla, sugar, candy, grass, spruce, strawberries and orange fruit. Sticky, sweet and malty flavour with notes of wood and caramel. Bitter hops in the finish. Strange brew..

Nov 15, 2009 Bomber med Pat and Tim. Murky orange, tiny pale head. Mild citric nose, sweet lemony soapiness, sweet grapefruit, faint dill oakiness and caramel malts. Flavor has sugary toffeeish malts, citric hops finish, mild grapefuit, hint of vanilla and dishwasher, easy and sweet. Almost full bodied, very smooth palate. Not a hint of the 11% strength, oak influence is minimal.

Nov 14, 2009 Bottled. Amber colour, small beige head. Aroma is wood, floral and fruity hops along with some mild notes of vanilla to it. Flavour is fruity hops along with some mild vanilla, wood and also quite bitter notes. Also caramel malts and some mild alcohol. Pleasant brew.
