Cask at Toronado. A pitch black beer with a bubbly brown head. The aroma has notes of chocolate and roasted malt. The flavor is sweet with strong notes of milk chocolate as well as medium notes of roasted malt, leading to a lightly bitter finish. Very smooth mouthfeel.

Draft pint at the brewpub. Nice pour, with a pillowy white top. Chocolatey aroma and nice roasty flavors. Comes across a bit lightly, but this fit the bill for an afternoon porter. (#3594, June 2009)

Draught at the brewpub. Deep, dark brown with a light beige head. Dark chocolate and some light caramel in the aroma. The flavor is chocolatey with a light acidity and light hops. Finishes dry with a light body and not much lingering. This is definitely a session porter, not a robust version. Decent flavors but not a lot of malt going on.

12 oz bottle from Whole Foods. Poured into a pint glass. Darkest brown with a thin beige head that fizzles out pretty quickly. Light cocoa aroma with some dark bread crust and coffee. Flavor is black coffee with a slight metallic character. With warmth it opens up and gets a little sweeter and rounder. Dry, astringent finish with very high carbonation that also improves with warmth. Serve this one at cellar temp.

On cask at Toronado. The black body was topped with a light khaki head. The aroma was coffee and earthy mushrooms. There was also a little bit of leather. The taste was leather with some coffee and cola. There was also some light milk chocolate.

On-tap at the Brewpub. Pours dark brown with a moderate sized, light brown head, good lace. Smells dark and roasty malty, slightly sweet. Tastes roasty and dark malty, very nice. Medium body, good carbonation.
