Commercial Description:
This rich, dark Porter has been brewed using crystal, chocolate, black and amber malts from floor malted Sussex barley. The 'bittering' hop is the Sussex grown Admiral, which gives the beer its name. The winemaker's twist is to ferment and condition the beer with oak, giving a delicate balance of sweetness and bitterness, full depth of flavour and creamy vanilla notes. The ideal glass for appreciating the Admiral Porter at its best is a low goblet. As the porter is bottle-conditioned it does produce a sustained, coffee-coloured head which this wide-topped but slightly tapered glass helps to retain

Muddy brown color, small expresso head. Strange cellary, roasted malty aroma. Woody, roasted malty, dry flavor, a bit chocolaty, mouldy and sour. Interesting, but not outstanding good.

Bottled. Dark brown colour with mediumsized brown head. Aroma is sweet acidic fruits along with hops and coffee. Some wet, burnt wood is also present. Flavour is old coffee, sour and acidic dark fruit. The aftertaste is quite the same, but with chocolateish hints. A very sour and acidic porter, otherwise it could be nice...

Bottled. Ruby/black, small beige head. Licorice aroma. Dryish with wild yeast sourness, roasty malt and the lightest touch of wood and old english marmelade. Finishes somewhat metallic with medium bitterness. The yeasty acidity makes gives it a touch of old ale.

[bottle] As good as black with a large tan head. Dry, oaky aroma with notes of juniper and chocolate.Thin body with too much carbonation. Flavour is dry, roasty, ashy with notes of juniper. Unbalanced . Showing signs of infection.

Pours almost black with a medium sized brown head. Weird aroma of melon, chocolate, compost and plum. Overcarbonated and very watery feel to the body. Flavours of smoke, plum and coffee. Thin finish, very disappointing after the IPA.

Bottle conditioned
Dark brown color; frothy head. Mild but interesting aroma, with a clean wood character, giving a light oak bacteria sourness. Light body structure, quite common taste, based on roasted malt and caramel, but embellished with a gentle oak character and very light Bourbon vanilla. The final is mainly built on the roasted malt, quite dry.
