App.: Hazy deep ruby with a decent light tan froth.
Aroma: Plenty sour cherries and berries, lighter dried fruits, organic acid tang, a bit of caramel/toffee, reminiscent of a Flemish sour.
Palate: Medium body and fair effervescence.
Flav.: Much less fruit than the nose, more burnt sugar and wood, a bit of alcohol, some black coffee (!), a touch of the organic acid tang; dry with good bitterness.
Not keen on the nose and flavour being so mis-matched. Svesse (1818), Hässelby, Sweden Oct 6, 2008 (Bottle, Akkurat, Stockholm) Dark reddish brown colour with frothy, beige head leaving lots of lacing. Malty, fruity nose with notes of dark fruit, berries (raspberries, cherries) and caramel. Malty taste with dark fruit, wild berries, hints of chocolate and generous doses of spicy hops in the finish. Fairly dry and very tasty. Nice one. Boutip (1815), Gatineau, Quebec, Canada Oct 6, 2008 Bottle: Poured a clear deep brown color ale with a large off-white foamy head with good retention and great lacing. Aroma of dry malt with a light European hops finish. Taste is definitely drier then I would have expected with a nice enough dry hops finisBottle: Poured a clear deep brown color ale with a large off-white foamy head with good retention and great lacing. The label ‘’winter beer’’ lead me to expect a Belgian malt bomb with some balance sweetness but instead it seems I got a dry winter beer. Good carbonation with no discernable alcohol. While this is not bad or flawed, I thought it was too dry for my taste buds and not something I would revisit anytime soon.h.
