Commercial Description:
Bottle conditioned.
Ingredients: Water; wheat malt; barley malt; roasted malt; hops; yeast.
A wheat beer from the good old days.
Erdinger Weissbier ’dark’ is a rich and smooth wheat beer specialty from Erdinger Weissbräu. It owes its full-bodied flavor to the fine hops and dark malt used in its production.
The dark beer specialty is brewed according to an age-old recipe. Its spicy flavor also results from the increased proportion (about 13%) of original wort. Nonetheless, at 5.6%, it doesn’t contain much more alcohol than Erdinger Weissbier ’with fine yeast’.

Creamy and large, light brown initial head. Excellent lacing. Mostly lasting longevity.Cloudy, thick, dark brown body. Aroma: moderate burnt malt, mild coffee, banana and bubble gum. Initial flavor: moderate sweetness and light bitterness. Final flavor: light sweetness, bitterness and acidic. Average duration. Palate: light-medium body, texture amid watery and oily, lively carbonation and metallic finish. No traces of wheat in the mouth, tasting much more like a Schwarzbier, with less pronounced sweetness. Not so much appealing a taste.8s

Deep ruby brown with a frothy tan head. Dry dark malt, mild cocoa, and tropical fruit aromas. Light/medium body with a frothy mouthfeel. Nice yeasty flavor with tart wheat, light roasty nuts, with mild cocoa. Easy drinking, not too bad.

dark fizzy pour with a frothy off white head. aroma is of dark malt and a little bit of spiciness. sweet dark sugars in the mouth as well and a relatively smooth wheat presence. A little fizzy but decent mouthfeel. Finish is mild. An ok dunkel, but nothing too exciting.

Very nice black color with a thick tan head. I would of liked to have seen better lacing (only flaw on the looks). Full of complex flavors like some coffee, sweet malt, carmel, smokey, and the soft bite of hops at the end with only one thing missing. I personally would of liked more coffee aftertaste. Overall, this is a well thought out beer that I’ll savour for a while. Good job Erdinger!

Now that I’ve let this warm up, it’s getting better. Excellent hazy mahogany colour. Poured a stupidly huge tan head that should’ve been thicker if not for the dominant large bubbles trapped in the head. Decent retension with moderate spotty lacing. The aroma has come out better now and it’s got some complexity to it: thick malts, caramel, hearty bread and an acceptable level of yeast. I wish it was a touch more aromatic. Flavour is intereting with it’s tasty caramel malts, spice (cloves???) and if i didn’t read it somewhere, I never would’ve nailed this other tasted down as vanilla, but there it is. Dry mouthslapping yeast. More flavour than I’ve noticed in the past, but still mild. Medium bodied, quite smooth and appealing to the mouth with ample carbonation on the swish. Excellent mild bitter finish with a thought of dirt. I forgot to mention a fruitiness throughout, but the malts were more prominent. For the first time, I may actually willingly get more Erdinger strickly for the drinking experience. As I remember, this beer was always quite boring and dissapointing. Now I’ve discovered to let it get quite warm to be able to notice its subtle qualities.
