Commercial Description:
Bottle conditioned.
Ingredients: Water; wheat malt; barley malt; roasted malt; hops; yeast.
A wheat beer from the good old days.
Erdinger Weissbier ’dark’ is a rich and smooth wheat beer specialty from Erdinger Weissbräu. It owes its full-bodied flavor to the fine hops and dark malt used in its production.
The dark beer specialty is brewed according to an age-old recipe. Its spicy flavor also results from the increased proportion (about 13%) of original wort. Nonetheless, at 5.6%, it doesn’t contain much more alcohol than Erdinger Weissbier ’with fine yeast’.

Bottle. A murky, very dark brown with a very full and lasting, fluffy beige head; sticky, scattered lacing. Delicate chocolate and banana aromas. Clean and smooth mouthfeel after the initial fizziness subsides. A liquorice and alcohol flavour profile. Sweet and refreshing, without much in the way of a noticeable wheat taste. A crisp and hoppy bitter finish, though short.

Bottle. Murky brown colour with rapidly thinning beige head. Little aroma or, for that matter, flavour. A little sweet and a decent light palate. Uncomplicated beer. Not great, not bad.

Bottled. Dark brown with large beige head. Caramel, wheat and banana aroma and taste. Good carbonation with a lingering bitterness in the finish.

Dark ruby brown apperarance with thick, lasting beige head. Faint aroma of coffee and barley. The flavor is more like a Dunkel lager not a Dunkelweizen. It has a very minimal wheat character.

500 ml bottle from LCBO, served at cellar temperature in a tulip glass. DE05/08.

App.: Murky deep cola brown a moderate off-white head. Aroma: Minty herbals, dark dried fruits, sweet cherries, bubblegum esters, slightly tangy fruitiness, a bit of yeast and bread dough. Palate: Medium body and somewhat sparse effervescence. Flav.: Less than the nose, still some minty herbals, more yeast, a bit of dark dried fruit and caramel, much less esters (still present), slightly woody; a little off-dry, very low bitterness with a bit of lingering brown sugar.

Nice stuff, a bit disappointing in the mouth.

Pours a dark brown, darker than just about any other wheat beer Ive had. Aroma is, as you would expect, wheaty and roasty. Flavor isnt as present as I would expect. Bit of roasty and rather dry. Not bad. Not wonderful. Rather disappointing after having the regular Hefe.

500ml bottle with gift pack from LCBO. A lot less flavour in this beer than I was expecting, although what is there is good. Also a lot more carbonation than I expected. Not too shabby.
