Commercial Description:
Bottle conditioned.
Ingredients: Water; wheat malt; barley malt; roasted malt; hops; yeast.
A wheat beer from the good old days.
Erdinger Weissbier ’dark’ is a rich and smooth wheat beer specialty from Erdinger Weissbräu. It owes its full-bodied flavor to the fine hops and dark malt used in its production.
The dark beer specialty is brewed according to an age-old recipe. Its spicy flavor also results from the increased proportion (about 13%) of original wort. Nonetheless, at 5.6%, it doesn’t contain much more alcohol than Erdinger Weissbier ’with fine yeast’.

Pours a very dark brown, with cloudy opaqueness, and a dark tan head. Distinct citrus and malt aromas. A slight coffee taste, good amount of toffee and rye which lingers in the aftertaste. A little more carbonation than other weißbiers. Lingering froth on the top of the beer, and a bit of lace.

Poured from the bottle into a pint glass for drinking. A very dark brown-black color with a big creamy tan head that had good retention. A malty, earthy hops aroma with some barley, and hints of roasty chocolate with maybe a touch of caramel and wheat. The taste was bitter and sweet with some grainy, earthy effects. A wet and watery beer, with a fuller body and mouthfeel, and average carbonation.

I’ve been buying a lot of these lately. Pours a medium brown with a large white head. Malty toffee, banana flavour with small hints of chocolate. I have not had many dunkels. I wish they sold more. Great beer for any season

This stuff is really pleasant; I could see this as a good all-night beer. Not very hoppy or bitter at all. Just smooth maltiness, cocoa, and cream all slightly roasted, though not as full as a porter. Overall not world class, but very good.

Dark coffee colour with a head tinged with brown. Sweet fruity flavored with hints of chocolate and toffee. An aroma of burnt sugar with coffee and malt. Slightly syrupy mouthfeel, no aftertaste. Medium to low bitterness.

(Bottle). Hazy dark brown with a medium white head. Aroma of banana, malt, and some hints of grains and cherry. Malty flavour with some yeast, and also sweet. Medium body and well balanced. Very refreshing.

On draft, served in a shaker glass. Murky dark brown body topped by a lasting creamy off-white head. Quite an attractive Dunkel in my book. Soft caramel and cocoa smell. Taste is cocoa, wheat, caramel, light esters. Pretty good.
