Commercial Description:
Bottle conditioned.
Ingredients: Water; wheat malt; barley malt; roasted malt; hops; yeast.
A wheat beer from the good old days.
Erdinger Weissbier ’dark’ is a rich and smooth wheat beer specialty from Erdinger Weissbräu. It owes its full-bodied flavor to the fine hops and dark malt used in its production.
The dark beer specialty is brewed according to an age-old recipe. Its spicy flavor also results from the increased proportion (about 13%) of original wort. Nonetheless, at 5.6%, it doesn’t contain much more alcohol than Erdinger Weissbier ’with fine yeast’.

A wonderful and tasty beer. Had on tap at Bottlescrew Bills, Calgary AB which is my bar of choice. Pours a deep brown verging on black colour which a huge off white head that remains large. An aroma of roasted malts, almonds and other nuts, caramel, and a hint of fruit. A taste of heat and roast. Peculiar and interesting mouthfeel- the beer is uncarbonated and medium to full bodied. A great dark hefe to compliment their hefeweizzen. Will definately drink again especially on tap at Bottlescrew Bills, Calgary AB.

Pours a deep, dark brown with a huge head which collapses to a quarter-inch head with great retention and some lace. Slightly skunky lagerish aroma - light butter, light toastiness, and as it warms, a nice spiciness. Tastes surprisingly pleasant - I don’t normally like this style of beer. Sweet and buttery with a light molasses touch, but with a nice strong & smooth malt backbone. Light metallic taste to the hops, particularly in the finish. A bit undercarbonated, but a good creamy milkshake of a body. I don’t dislike this beer. Would go well with a steak.

Great dark Hefe beer. Not expensive (actually very good value) and a real pleasure to drink on a late summer day in a beer garden. Dark and refreshing, with a mysterious appeal of darkness, but Vorsicht, only drink when you are hungry. It tastes like a fine bread and is a pleasure, for sure, to share with close friends or a Wingman (USAF).

Attractive looking glass of beer. Thick off white head atop a dark brown body. Nothing spectaular to smell or taste though. Bit of clove, bit of banana, bit of biscuity malt. Worth a try though, just not my thing. Although i’ll probably sup one or two again in the future.

bit of a sweet malt aroma, dark colour, a little thin body, but has a clover/banana aftertaste to it.

Soul Cafe, Budapest. Very dark brown colour with a large off white creamyish head. Looked the part. Aroma was brown sugar, malt and some dark fruit. Flavour was pretty malty with some sweetness. Balance was ok. Not bad, just not earth shattering. Probably the best beer of the trip, which isn’t saying much.

.5L Bottle Lt to medium body that is smooth and sweet. Nose is minimal caramel. No lacing, and not much carbonation. Mouthfeel is caramel and some powdered sugar. Finish is a bit watery and the wheat is subdued. This is a quite drinkable beer none the less, but a bit off the mark.
