Commercial Description:
Bottle conditioned.
Ingredients: Water; wheat malt; barley malt; roasted malt; hops; yeast.
A wheat beer from the good old days.
Erdinger Weissbier ’dark’ is a rich and smooth wheat beer specialty from Erdinger Weissbräu. It owes its full-bodied flavor to the fine hops and dark malt used in its production.
The dark beer specialty is brewed according to an age-old recipe. Its spicy flavor also results from the increased proportion (about 13%) of original wort. Nonetheless, at 5.6%, it doesn’t contain much more alcohol than Erdinger Weissbier ’with fine yeast’.

North American label calls this Hefe Weizen Dark. Aroma is malty, a bit fruity and perhaps with a metallic touch. Pours an almost completely opaque black with a long lasting off-white head. Unfortunately the foam doesn’t seem to want to leave any lacing whatsoever. Taste is like a mix of a hefeweizen and a stout. Mouthfeel begins with carbonation but ends up a bit watery. Some bitterness overall, but more malt. I’ll stick with Schneider Aventinus for a similar, but better, beer.

From a 1 pt. 9 fl. oz. bottle no. 03-2009 LO41103. Very dark brown almost black pour with a substantial amount of creamy, beige head that leaves decent lacing. Aroma of light spices, malts and wheat. Solid mouth feel. Sweet taste of light chocolate. Smooth all around. Something I really enjoyed.

This was much tastier to me then the plain ole Erdinger Weissbier. It had a much fuller body and I really enjoyed the caramel/malty taste.

Bottle brown, 500 ml, 12.9 P
Appearance: Body is hazy or even murky, cloudy, dark brown to hazy black, head is frothy, off- white, regular in structure, gives some fair lacing, body is medium, carbonation is mild and gentle though is not clearly seen, because of cloudiness, very dark as for wheat beer.
Aroma: A bit accidic, rather no wheat what is surprising, it is more caramelic in aroma than wheaty, a kind of burned sugar, carbonation is felt, rather no hops, yeast and no malts, some kind of sweetness, a hint of cherry, milky, creamy.
Flavour: In flavour is sweet, more like dunkel than hefeweizen beer, caramel, a bit accidic, carbonation, a hint of wheat though weak, rather mellow, a hint of milk, chockolate, cacao, but not much sweetness, a bit grainy, finish feel is average, cherry.
Palate: Finish flavour is light sweet, dry, carbonation is soft on palate, body is medium, texture is wattery, finish feel is light alcoholic.Generally good beer, but not as weizen (wheat) beer but like dunkel with addition of wheaty blend. Much better than Erdinger Hefe Weissbier.

i50cl bottle from Sainsburys./i Cloudy chocolate brown with a thick tan head fruity roasted malt aroma similar flavour dry finish with a touch of banana. Not a familiar style to me, OK - but not something I’d go hunting for.

when I saw that the average note of this particular dunkel weisse is above 3 I became very concerned, sour and dissapointed about your tastes my fellow ratebeerians, however there is no judgement on the preferences, ........so....in the terms of type and general ideas this beer is absolutely a failure, failure to be dunkel, failure to be weisse, no yeast, no wheat, some strange not particular "dark"’ notes, no distinctive taste, like sweet-ish and caramel-ish water semi-carbonated
