Commercial Description:
Bottle conditioned.
Ingredients: Water; wheat malt; barley malt; roasted malt; hops; yeast.
A wheat beer from the good old days.
Erdinger Weissbier ’dark’ is a rich and smooth wheat beer specialty from Erdinger Weissbräu. It owes its full-bodied flavor to the fine hops and dark malt used in its production.
The dark beer specialty is brewed according to an age-old recipe. Its spicy flavor also results from the increased proportion (about 13%) of original wort. Nonetheless, at 5.6%, it doesn’t contain much more alcohol than Erdinger Weissbier ’with fine yeast’.

Dark brown / red with a big tan head. Aroma of malty banana with faint coffee notes. Feel is a bit above medium. This is more malt centered than wheat but there is some wheat flavor with yeast and clove. Nice tongue tickling hops. Caramel flavor dominated late. Not at all complex but still delightful.

Pours a five finger light tan head that fades quickly to a thin layer and leaves traces of lace. Cloudy amber color, yeast left in bottle. Light-medium carbonation and medium bodied. Mostly malty nose. Flavor is malty, sweet, hints of yeast. Clean finish. Nice hefe. $3.99 for a 500ml bottle from Capitol Convenience Concord, NH.

Bottle. Large, creamy, light brown lasting head with good lacing. Cloudy brown body. Heavy malt aroma of coffee, nutty, toasted/roasted malt. Light yeast and hop aroma. Medium body, oily texture, soft carbonation and a metallic finish. The flavor is moderate/heavy sweet and light bitter. A OK beer even though it is not very complex or surprising.

Bottle. Pours brown with a beige head. Light fruit aroma with notes of banana, brown sugar and spices. Light body. Not much flavor here, very light notes of fruit and spice, followed by a slightly metallic finish.

550ml - Gravity Beer Market - Olympia, WA
Aroma – Nice dark Hefe malt aroma with very little hops.
Appearance – Dark Brown in color, Nice head and slight hazy grain look.
Flavor – Very nice dark wheat beer. Lots of wheat malt flavor this was very nice and subtle with the flavors.
Palate – Good Mouthfeel, Crisp texture with a nice dry finish.
Overall – One of the better dark Hefe’s I have ever had . The flavor was thick like a Dunkel. A very nice beer for the night.

I love dunkelweiss! This is a style that isn’t done often enough. Like a normal German weiss with just a touch of malty sweetness. Very refreshing.

...decent dunkel but nowhere near where it should be. Spicy, floral notes, blended with a slightly complex malt flavor. Dark, with roasted hints make this a good all around, balanced dunkel, but should be much better.

Bottle dated 4/08 (and on sale). Dark brown, lighter around the edges. Fluffy head seems a little hollow and fades. Not much aroma. Effervescent carbonation, but there’ too much of it, and it interferes with the taste. At the end, there’s a light roasted cocoa and spice flavor which is really nice. A mixed bag.
