Commercial Description:
Bottle conditioned.
Ingredients: Water; wheat malt; barley malt; roasted malt; hops; yeast.
A wheat beer from the good old days.
Erdinger Weissbier ’dark’ is a rich and smooth wheat beer specialty from Erdinger Weissbräu. It owes its full-bodied flavor to the fine hops and dark malt used in its production.
The dark beer specialty is brewed according to an age-old recipe. Its spicy flavor also results from the increased proportion (about 13%) of original wort. Nonetheless, at 5.6%, it doesn’t contain much more alcohol than Erdinger Weissbier ’with fine yeast’.

One of the best dunkel weisse beers I’ve ever had. Tried it the first time on tap in Stuutgart, Germany. NIce creamy texture, full head, great dessert beer. Try it with a slice of German chocolate cake.

Bottled, 500ml. Dark brown to copper with cream head. Not the heavy flavours that I would expect from this type of beer, some spicyness, banana from the wheat but a slightly dull, dark malt body reduces the experience. A smidgeon of hops in the close, again not enought to raise it to a great beer, but it was ok.

(Rating #1478)

Tasting notes from last year. Bottle. Mild roasty nose with standard banana and cloves. Dark but not black pour with rocky head that sticks around. Flavor is banana, some caramel, and a bit of lager funk. Pretty light body considering and easy to drink, but not terribly exciting.

Tasted 2008-02-14. Fresh bottle. Pours unclear cola colured with beige head. Aroma: Banana, cloves, caramel. Boring. Flavours: Slightly metallic, otherwise same as aroma. The metal fades, but the beer keeps being boring.

Bottle. Poured a deep brown body with nice head. Aroma is malt, chocolate. Taste is sweet malt, dried fruit, chocolate, light yeast. Smooth but the flavor was almost too light for me.

(500ml bottle) Purchased at Willows Park in Calgary. Pours a lasting, medium gray-beige head atop a deep copper-brown body. Nose of slight prunes, olives and mellow roasted malt. Flavour is surprisingly different from Aventinus - thinner, small ABV and a good chocolate malt base. Interesting but definitely inferior to the Schneider product.

pours black with an almost white big head...plenty of lacing as it settles... aroma of light malts .... watery mouthfeel....malt liquor finish with a soapy, pasty after taste .... drinkable but no WOW factor
