Commercial Description:
Bottle conditioned.
Ingredients: Water; wheat malt; barley malt; roasted malt; hops; yeast.
A wheat beer from the good old days.
Erdinger Weissbier ’dark’ is a rich and smooth wheat beer specialty from Erdinger Weissbräu. It owes its full-bodied flavor to the fine hops and dark malt used in its production.
The dark beer specialty is brewed according to an age-old recipe. Its spicy flavor also results from the increased proportion (about 13%) of original wort. Nonetheless, at 5.6%, it doesn’t contain much more alcohol than Erdinger Weissbier ’with fine yeast’.

This beer looked as though it would be a nice drink, but it had almost no flavour. What a disappointment! Jolly good thing I only bought one bottle, what!

pours dark brown with medium-tan head; relatively light body - color is quite deceiving in this regard. Tastes of standard lager with a somewhat bitter wheat finish. a refreshing change of pace, but nothing that special.

50 cL bottle. Pours deep dark brown with a light brown and dense head. Mild malty and slight wheaty aroma. Flavour is roasted mat with a subdued wheat note lingering into a mild bitterness in the finish.

500ml bottle.
Pours a deep brown with red-brown highlights. Has a good sized foamy light brown head. Smells bready with caramel, toffee malts and light fruit. Small amount of hop character. Flavour is similar. Sweet and caramely, finishing on earthy hops, dark chocolate and brown sugar. Pretty darn good but I’m quite the dark beer fan.

This beer didn’t impress me much. Poured a dark amber color with a nice retaining head. Smell had nice fruity accents and good taste of maltiness. Decient taste of dark malt but not much there on any other flavor. I did like this beer though.

500ml bottle from the LCBO, pours a murky brown with an unbelievably huge biege head that pretty much never subsides. The aroma is macro-like grains with some mild caramalt and minor yeast. Flavour is mildly better, caramalts upfront met with some darker fruity esters, plum, yeastyness and booze. Mild spicy bite in the finish which is kind of cool. Palate is much smoother and less effervescent than what I would expect from a Weizen of any kind. Different enough, interesting, but something about this style has never sat well with me. Mild roastyness as well but somehow the whole package seems strange and unnatrual to me. Drinkable but I would not buy this again. Too bad the label is really cool. If you let it sit for a while to calm the hell down it’s much more enjoyable.
