Commercial Description:
Bottle conditioned.
Ingredients: Water; wheat malt; barley malt; roasted malt; hops; yeast.
A wheat beer from the good old days.
Erdinger Weissbier ’dark’ is a rich and smooth wheat beer specialty from Erdinger Weissbräu. It owes its full-bodied flavor to the fine hops and dark malt used in its production.
The dark beer specialty is brewed according to an age-old recipe. Its spicy flavor also results from the increased proportion (about 13%) of original wort. Nonetheless, at 5.6%, it doesn’t contain much more alcohol than Erdinger Weissbier ’with fine yeast’.

0.5L bottle. Murky dark brown with some deep red streaks. mild roasty aroma with some yeast, some roasty aroma and some metalic notes, aftertaste is sour in an unpleastant way. Overall the beer feels diluted, very dissapointing.

On tap at the Loreeley a biergarten on Rivington St NYC. I enjoyed the weisen meets dark malt that poured an average head. Cloudy body released roasted grain taste. Body was medium and provided a moderate sweet and bitter combo.

Bottle. Labeled best before the end of 10-2007. Poured a dark brown color with an averaged sized off white head. Aromas of chocolate, roast, bananas, and I’m getting some dark fruits. Tastes of chocolate, roast, bananas, and a trace of caramel. Lively body.

500 ml bottle, best before 05-2008. Dark ruby brown colour with a mostly lasting fizzy and rocky tan head. Yeasty, chocolate, citrus, and metallic aroma. Yeasty, light chocolate, and bready flavours with a light banana and metallic finish. Medium bodied, smooth. Pretty simple and not all that flavourful.

Flaske. Igen en glædelig overraskelse. Flot mørk øl, med en kant af alkohol jeg normalt ikke opfanger i øl under 8-9 %. Og bestemt ikke forventede her. Dette er ment på en positiv måde. Så thumps up.

Bottled 50cl. It pours a dark brown beer with a nice slightly beige head. Dominating raisins in the nose. Fruity with hints of almonds and a good malty background. Slightly smoky. This beer is nicely balanced. Malty, moderately sweet and with a hint of sourness. Light bodied. Notes of bergamot, soap, raisins, licorice and cereals. Some cloves and garlic?! showing up. Slightly watery. Bready. Malty finish with a hint of plums. Rerate: Mediocre, let’s face it!
