Commercial Description:
Bottle conditioned.
Ingredients: Water; wheat malt; barley malt; roasted malt; hops; yeast.
A wheat beer from the good old days.
Erdinger Weissbier ’dark’ is a rich and smooth wheat beer specialty from Erdinger Weissbräu. It owes its full-bodied flavor to the fine hops and dark malt used in its production.
The dark beer specialty is brewed according to an age-old recipe. Its spicy flavor also results from the increased proportion (about 13%) of original wort. Nonetheless, at 5.6%, it doesn’t contain much more alcohol than Erdinger Weissbier ’with fine yeast’.

Pours a very dark brown that looks almost like chocolate soy milk due to its cloudy syrupy look. Big fluffy off white head. Tastes like wheat and malt and sugar. Kind of like what a diet dopplebock might taste like. Pretty good and very refreshing.

Large tan head with little lacing atop a deep brown body, Moderately sweet, slightly metallic, roasted malt aroma. Taste was soft fruit, molassas and caramel malts. The wheat flavor was well concealed. Semi-dry, lingering, almost cloying, finish.

Aroma of toasted malt, chocolate, and perhaps banana. Almost opaque brown color with a beige head. Rather thin bodied. The carbonation has some bite. The flavors are toasted malt, chocolate, and arguably some coriander. The finish is smooth, toasted malt, and light bitter. After a bit some spiciness, like dilute clove, erupts in the mouth. Apparently it needs to be warmer than frig temperature, as banana also comes out after awhile. Complexity develops.

Well they tell me this is what I’m looking for, so this I rate. Chocolate, banana, clove, walnuts, carmel, and nutmeg. Fluffy mouthfeel and head. extremely smooth but a little thin.

Bottle. Near black with a big beige head. Aroma of roasted malt and bitter chocolate. A smooth, almost oily mouthfeel, with more roasted flavours. Very enjoyable.

Pours black, somewhat coke-like, with caramel edges, very promising appearance. Aroma reveals the predominant coffee taste, had this a bit colder than preferable so couldn’t smell much. Palate is smooth, low carbonation, could be a tad more consistent. Taste is dominated by coffee with hints of caramel and toasted malt, very easygoing and refreshing beer. Somewhat one-dimensional, but still a very respectable weizendunkel.

500ml Bottle. Saw this in Morrisons - had to buy it. Pours with a big tan head, very dark brown body, my mate described it as looking ’like coke’. Roasted flavors, wheat, yeast and a hint of coriander. Some fruity, apple-like stuff in there too. As ever with weizens, it felt a bit watery, nice flavors just not enough of them. Very good mouth feel and easy to drink. I’m a fan of the dunkelweizen style, and this is a good one - recommended.

Darker brown to almost black coloured beer with average carbonation and an average off-white head. Roasted and malty sweet aroma. Medium to full palate. Finish is sweet roasted, again rather malty. Not bad.
