Commercial Description:
Bottle conditioned.
Ingredients: Water; wheat malt; barley malt; roasted malt; hops; yeast.
A wheat beer from the good old days.
Erdinger Weissbier ’dark’ is a rich and smooth wheat beer specialty from Erdinger Weissbräu. It owes its full-bodied flavor to the fine hops and dark malt used in its production.
The dark beer specialty is brewed according to an age-old recipe. Its spicy flavor also results from the increased proportion (about 13%) of original wort. Nonetheless, at 5.6%, it doesn’t contain much more alcohol than Erdinger Weissbier ’with fine yeast’.

Smell is sweet and heady with some soy and some cloves. Pours a deep, molasessey(sp?) brown with a firm head but virtually no lace. Flavour is nicely sweet with some of that west-european caramel malt coming through, but the finish becomes a little astrigent, cloying and soupy with a coat on the tongue. Definitely worth a revisit.

Poured with a very nice creamy 1 in. head which quickly dissapated into a 1/8in. head. The aroma was a bubble gum candy aroma. The bubbles were relatibvely large but they were prominent and fluffy enough to really enojoy. The taste was a very pleasing sweet malty caramel like beer with a smooth aftertaste. there was no dominating extract that impinged on the flavor, rather it was quite smooth and drinkable. This beer may lack a little substance and depth but it makes up for that in taste. The character is moderate to small, but the appreciation for such a brew is large.

Bottle. Beige fingerthick head over a clear dark brown body. Mild aromas of dark malt and caramel with notes of dried dark fruits. Weak flavors; moderately sweet with caramel, wheat and a little roastiness. Also some slight fruity/acidic notes. Surprisingly thin and watery palate. A bit disappointing...

Big beige creamy lasting head, black opaque body. Faint acidic wheaty aroma with earthy licorice notes. Taste is light earthy wheat with a bitterish chocolatey aftertaste with notes of wild berries. Decent, but a bit boring. (0.5l bottle.)

500 ml bottle. Creamy dark german weisse, with a dark brown color and a good bubble beige head. Malt and mild sour in aroma. .Mediun body. Banana notes in a moderated sweet taste. Short fruity and malty finish.

Bottle. First "hefe weizen -dark" as the label shows. Pours a dark brown, near black with a thick offwhite head. Poured in a weizen glass. A little spice, banana flavorings. Intersting texture, its dark, but drinks fairly light and smooth, almost water-like. I over-expected on this, hoping for a more pronouced flavor, especially after having a simple Widmer Hefe earlier in the day.

I love schneider original, and this was just delicious as well. I see what many people mean when they say it appears a bit ’thin’, but it really grew on me as it warmed up. Mmm chocolate was very prominent for me..coffee? and caramel. lovely thick head.

Bottle. My first try at a “Dunkelweizen” and what a great experience this is. Almost pitch black colour with a slightly muddy and sparkling look. Initial appearance of head was huge white coloured, which fully lasted. Left some slight lacing on the glass. Aroma was very yeasty, banana, spice, flowers and coriander. Some malt comes into play with light hints of soft bread, caramel, roasted and chocolate notes. Flavour is medium sweet. Medium bodied. Carbonation was lively. Sweet and soft like finish. Better and a slight bit more complex then the Hefeweizen.
