Commercial Description:
Bottle conditioned.
Ingredients: Water; wheat malt; barley malt; roasted malt; hops; yeast.
A wheat beer from the good old days.
Erdinger Weissbier ’dark’ is a rich and smooth wheat beer specialty from Erdinger Weissbräu. It owes its full-bodied flavor to the fine hops and dark malt used in its production.
The dark beer specialty is brewed according to an age-old recipe. Its spicy flavor also results from the increased proportion (about 13%) of original wort. Nonetheless, at 5.6%, it doesn’t contain much more alcohol than Erdinger Weissbier ’with fine yeast’.

I like this beer a lot. The aroma is malty and a bit fruity. It has a roasted malt flavor. Both the appearance and the palate are just great.

50cl bottle poured into a weizen glass. Beautiful brown color with an inch and a half of slow-dissipating frothy head. Very malty, fruity weizen aroma. Tastes a lot like the regular Erdinger but better. Hints of chocolate and nuts. Very smooth palate.

500 ml. bottle. Pours a thick, even overly bountiful head of long duration, with minimal lacing, over a cloudy dark brown (SRM 20) body...nose is of bread, slight yeast, mild spice, clove, allspice, bit of citrus.....tastes initially of neutral malts, then mild spice finish, mild sweetness throughout....mouth feel is light and somewhat watery. A much lighter beer in terms of nose and taste than I expected.

Pours dark slightly hazed brown with a 3 finger dusty tan head. Aroma is caramel, dark breads, sweet malt, toast, banana and a little plum. Flavor is toasted crusty wheat bread, heavily spiced banana bread, clove, vanilla and caramel. Hints of raw yeast, candied fruit and overripe apple to finish.

pours rich brown with the considerable head expect from a wheat beer. Carbonation dissipates rapidly. The flavour is somewhat lacking. It lacks the richness and complexity of others. The mouthfeel is decent and it does have the wheaty flavour with a hint of spice. Overally was dissapointed.

Bottle 50 cl. Pours a very dark brown with a medium and fading tannish head and an aroma of malts, caramel, strawberries and banana. The flavor is very malty with white bread, banana, caramel and brown sugar. Nice but not that special

500 mL bottle from the Barracks Road Teeter in Charlottesville, VA. Pours a hazy brown color with a medium head. Decent head retention and lacing. Aroma is nondescript and malty with very faint banana bread. Taste is toffeeish malts, banana, bread, slight spice. Medium bodied.

500ml bottle with a best by date of October 2009. Nice dark brown color, small head. Smells decent and malty but not much like a hefe. The flavor is nice and malty but i get no clove or bubblegum nor banana that I usually get from a hefeweissen. I need to drink more dunkelweizens to get a good feel for the style.
