Commercial Description:
Bottle conditioned.
Ingredients: Water; wheat malt; barley malt; roasted malt; hops; yeast.
A wheat beer from the good old days.
Erdinger Weissbier ’dark’ is a rich and smooth wheat beer specialty from Erdinger Weissbräu. It owes its full-bodied flavor to the fine hops and dark malt used in its production.
The dark beer specialty is brewed according to an age-old recipe. Its spicy flavor also results from the increased proportion (about 13%) of original wort. Nonetheless, at 5.6%, it doesn’t contain much more alcohol than Erdinger Weissbier ’with fine yeast’.

Dark brown pour. Heady beige foam atop. Spices, peat, and roasted malts in the nose. Flavours include sweet candy malts, a subtle spiceyness, with mild earthy peaty flavours in the finish. Medium light bodied, with a somewhat watery finish.

(50 cl bottle from Systembolaget) Shady dark brown color, huge beige lasting head. Sweet, faint acidic scent with some chocolate. Taste is soft fruity and sweet, also malty. Soft mouthfeel with noticably high co2. Low bitterness with a sweet aftertaste.

(500ml bottle) Purchased at Willows Park in Calgary. Pours a lasting, medium gray-beige head atop a deep copper-brown body. Nose of slight prunes, olives and mellow roasted malt. Flavour is surprisingly different from Aventinus - thinner, small ABV and a good chocolate malt base. Interesting but definitely inferior to the Schneider product.

Lovely deep brown, large beige head. Not much aroma. Soft carbonation, sweet smooth palate, but heading towards sticky. Taste has pleasant burnt roastiness, with some toffee and a few fruity retronasals. Finish is very pleasantly hopped though. Needs more body, perhaps, or slightly higher attenuation to dry and crispen the palate more. Do not drink too cold, the good stuff comes out as it warms.

Bottle picked up at Morrissons, Aylesbury 8th August 2006, and drank this in a field at Cropredy, Fairport Conventions Cropredy Festival Thursday 10th August. This was another of my beers that I had to drink straight from the bottle having forgotten to take a glass into the field. It looked very dark in the bottle, and I could detect a nice malty rich and roasty aroma, there was some nice maltiness in the taste along with a bit ofn yeast as well, even a bit of fruit there. Pretty good beer all things considered.

Bottled. Dark brown with a huge off-white head. Weak aroma and flavour; could be some yeast and bitter herbs.

An almost black weissbier(!) with a nice creamy head. Aroma is fruity and clearly with banana. A sweet and fruity flavor, somewhat candylike, but not in a bad way. Finish is coffee/cocoa. A good one
