Commercial Description:
Bottle conditioned.
Ingredients: Water; wheat malt; barley malt; roasted malt; hops; yeast.
A wheat beer from the good old days.
Erdinger Weissbier ’dark’ is a rich and smooth wheat beer specialty from Erdinger Weissbräu. It owes its full-bodied flavor to the fine hops and dark malt used in its production.
The dark beer specialty is brewed according to an age-old recipe. Its spicy flavor also results from the increased proportion (about 13%) of original wort. Nonetheless, at 5.6%, it doesn’t contain much more alcohol than Erdinger Weissbier ’with fine yeast’.

Bottle, from Asda Grimsby. Deep brown, lasting white head and moderate condition. Gentle roasted malt, slight smokiness and gentle banana fruitiness in the nose, soft and muted in the mouth with hints of burnt malt and low suggestion of fruitiness, blandfinish with low toasted malt

After the Erdinger Hefeweizen this was much more of what I expected. Very flavourful. Aroma more pleasant than just yeast. More of an exciting beverage than just the standard German Wheat.

Bottle - chocolate malt aroma. Dark brown and cloudy appearance. Malt and coffee taste - not overpowering, very pleasant. A light dunkel but very nice.

Big beige creamy lasting head, black opaque body. Faint acidic wheaty aroma with earthy licorice notes. Taste is light earthy wheat with a bitterish chocolatey aftertaste with notes of wild berries. Decent, but a bit boring. (0.5l bottle.)

On tap at a little place near the airport just outside Erding. Now this is an awesome beer! Dark brown cloudy pour with a beige to dark tan head. Yeasty estery aroma with difficult to nail down flavors. Tart and slightly acidic, maybe even a little like lemon! Good body of maltiness and roasted flavors. I’ll have another please! UPDATE 10/2007: On tap at the Huber Haus/Crescent Moon Annual Oktoberfest. Straight from the outdoor beer truck tap. Delicious. Much more of a roasted flavor than I remember from Germany. This had a nice beige head in the maß, but wasn’t cloudy at all this time.

Banana, cloves, and wheat in the aroma. Dark, cloudy brown with a large white head. Looks like I’m drinking water from the Mississippi. Flavor of gentle wheat and a very nice malt taste. The malt is similar in aroma and flavor to an abt. Somewhat sweet.

Dark brown and hazy with a big head as usual. Slightly malty and yeasty aroma (not much). Some wheat and roastiness in flavour, but it is such a bore. Some banana in finish. A below avarge dark wheat.
