| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Sep 17, 2005 (500 ml bottle: $2.19 at Hi-Time Wine Cellars in Costa Mesa, CA) Best by August, 2005, so that’s pretty close. This beer pours a murky, dark brown with a fizzy, light-tan head that dissipates rapidly. Probably the darkest German Dunkelweizen I’ve seen yet. The aroma is sweet and malty, a maltiness that is reminiscent of a doppelbock, just less alcoholic, but the wheat and banana are not too far behind. Sweet banana, caramel, and wheat seem to be the most flavorful components, but it’s less out-and-out malty than the nose indicates. Nevertheless, it’s still a pretty sweet beer, sweeter than most others in the class. Medium bodied, perhaps even leaning a little beyond medium. Carbonation is moderate-to-high, so it’s pretty zesty on the palate and certainly helps to keep the beer from cloying. This is a decent beer, enjoyable enough, but the sweetness could be toned down a bit. Gusler (2655), Tucson, Arizona, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Jul 6, 2001 Been a while since i sampled a Erdinger, still quite good. Dark and rich, nice malt nose, hints of toasted grains, somewhat dry and a bit of hop tones, all in all a better than average ’Dunkel Weiss’. Aurelius (2655), Tallahassee, Florida, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jan 12, 2002 Malty aroma. Fun foam -- 20:1 head to beer ratio on initial pour in a pilsener. As the bubbles consolidated, it looked like a glass of tapioca pudding. Blindfolded, I’d swear that this was a barley beer and not a weiss. Smooth, mouthy, dark. None of the funk that I find with many weissbiers. This was a pleasant surprise -- I could certainly enjoy more than one of these as I watched the river go by. downender (2639), Bristol, Gloucestershire, England

A smooth, almost oily mouthfeel, with more roasted flavours. Very enjoyable. Jeppe (2638), Ølbutikken, Denmark

| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Nov 2, 2005 Bottle, LCBO giftpack. Dark brown, big tan head - looks nice. Aroma of faint malt and chocolate, but quite mild. Soft, light mouthfeel, quite bubbly and a little watery. Taste of slight sweet malt with some wood notes, and maybe a hint of shaved chocolate, but quite mild as well. Finishes quick. A nice bottled Dunkel and easy to drink, but certainly nothing exceptional.
