Commercial Description:
Bottle conditioned.
Ingredients: Water; wheat malt; barley malt; roasted malt; hops; yeast.
A wheat beer from the good old days.
Erdinger Weissbier ’dark’ is a rich and smooth wheat beer specialty from Erdinger Weissbräu. It owes its full-bodied flavor to the fine hops and dark malt used in its production.
The dark beer specialty is brewed according to an age-old recipe. Its spicy flavor also results from the increased proportion (about 13%) of original wort. Nonetheless, at 5.6%, it doesn’t contain much more alcohol than Erdinger Weissbier ’with fine yeast’.

Looks and smells great, but that’s about it. There is just absolutely nothing in the flavoring at all, not sweet, not anyghing. It doesn’t even really seem like I’m drinking a beer, just dark something. This score is skewed because of the two more useless aspects of the rating system.

Not much nose, but this thing looks beautiful: dark, chocolate-brown and a lucious head that won’t quit. Sweet roasted malt taste with hints of toffee. Sweet finish that leaves a sugary feeling on your lips. Smooth with a very clean palatte, perhaps a little thin. Very enjoyable though. Einfach süfig!

RE-RATE: Draught at Bier Markt. I had a pint from supposedly the first keg of this beer ever available in Canada - we’ve only had it in bottles previously. Appearance is the same as as the bottled version, but both aroma and flavour are better, holding a nice tart/tangy note that I never got from the bottles. Probably a question of age - this was presumably much fresher beer. Still a bit dead in the finish, but all in all, quite an improvment.

Original rating: Bottle from LCBO giftpack. Nice dark ruby-brown with a large tan head. Very subdued aroma of malt with a faint spiciness. Thin body. Light flavour, again with faint malts, a bit of earthiness, and not much else. As a fan of Aventinus, I was hoping for something similar here, but it was sorely lacking the spicey & yeasty character I was hoping for. Quite disappointing. [5/4/5/2/10]

Bottle labeled as hefewiezen dark -pours dark brown with a nice creamy tan head that stays pretty well and laces some on the Weizen. Aromas of clove, bannana, caramel, molasses, and even a little bubblegum. Flavor is caramel, chocolate, cloves, bannana, molasses. Leans more towards the fruity side but quite pleasant. Good medium body with a fair amount of carbonation which gives it a soft mouthfeel and a pretty clean feeling palate.

Pours a muddy color with a good sized head. Thinnish feel, ended too sour. I'll give it another shot someday.

Bottle. Molasses, spicy grainy aromas. Some sweetness. Quite light and refreshing - perhaps overly so.

Pours a thick, opaque, brown color, and is topped by a thick light brown head. Enticing aromas of raisins, caramel, and toast waft from my glass to my nose. Overall the aroma is quite fruity as well. The taste is mildly sweet and finishes with a hint of clove, and smooth mellowness. This has some really nice bready notes mixed with caramel and biscuit flavors. There is a dry finish, which begs for you to take another sip. This is a nice enjoyable example, that could use, perhaps, a bit more of the traditional Hefe flavors, but it is quite good as is.

Nice malty offering here. The hops are somewhat reluctant to take credit, but you do feel their presence. A good effort from a quality brewer.
