Commercial Description:
Bottle conditioned.
Ingredients: Water; wheat malt; barley malt; roasted malt; hops; yeast.
A wheat beer from the good old days.
Erdinger Weissbier ’dark’ is a rich and smooth wheat beer specialty from Erdinger Weissbräu. It owes its full-bodied flavor to the fine hops and dark malt used in its production.
The dark beer specialty is brewed according to an age-old recipe. Its spicy flavor also results from the increased proportion (about 13%) of original wort. Nonetheless, at 5.6%, it doesn’t contain much more alcohol than Erdinger Weissbier ’with fine yeast’.

Bottle: Poured a clear dark dunkel with a large foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of light roasted malt with light caramel and light banana aftertaste. Taste is mostly dominated by some roasted malt with a light bitter finish and some light fruity notes also noticeable. Average body with good carbonation. OK but again a style that really doesn’t appeal to me that much.

550ml - Gravity Beer Market - Olympia, WA
Aroma – Nice dark Hefe malt aroma with very little hops.
Appearance – Dark Brown in color, Nice head and slight hazy grain look.
Flavor – Very nice dark wheat beer. Lots of wheat malt flavor this was very nice and subtle with the flavors.
Palate – Good Mouthfeel, Crisp texture with a nice dry finish.
Overall – One of the better dark Hefe’s I have ever had . The flavor was thick like a Dunkel. A very nice beer for the night.

Bottled.Large barely controllable head, frothy speckled brown/off-white colour. Murky brown opaque body. Chewy sweet and sour flavour. Malt and citrus combo. Bitter hop through the middle but finishes rather weakly to become an unremarkable beer.

(Draught) Good stuff - try it with a solid German meal! Rerate: I still think this is an excellent brew, but was too generous with the points the first time. Rerate bottle: Not as good as draught, but still good, even without a meal! - but I maintain that it’s the perfect accompaniment with German pork dishes. Great lasting head, cloudy dark brown colour, moderate aroma and flavour of spices and lightly roasted malts. The guys who think it tastes like flat Coke should probably stick to Coke.

The smell and body of this beer were fantastic...very malty and almost THICK in aroma...the head was absolutely huge and very rich, making me think I had a rich dunkel-weiss on my hands...seriously disappointing...thin watery body with little hops OR much maltiness to detect...this was a 16.9 oz bottle of ehhhhhhh......lots of banana though...

This is a very drinkable dunkel. It's slightly sour, but very nice to drink

Wonderfull head, and dark color. But it hasn't the fruit that's typical for a weissbeer, it' more like an ale.

Bottle; pours a dirty, reddish brown color with a medium to large tan head. Aroma of caramel, fruit, dark fruit and a light hint of vanilla and cocoa. Flavor was a lot dryer than expected; not hugely dry, just surprising. Wheat and dark fruit predominate. Some caramel and cocoa tones. A good amount of carbonation in the palate, almost became a turn off. That being said, it was extremely easy to drink. All around solid beer.
