Commercial Description:
Bottle conditioned.
Ingredients: Water; wheat malt; barley malt; roasted malt; hops; yeast.
A wheat beer from the good old days.
Erdinger Weissbier ’dark’ is a rich and smooth wheat beer specialty from Erdinger Weissbräu. It owes its full-bodied flavor to the fine hops and dark malt used in its production.
The dark beer specialty is brewed according to an age-old recipe. Its spicy flavor also results from the increased proportion (about 13%) of original wort. Nonetheless, at 5.6%, it doesn’t contain much more alcohol than Erdinger Weissbier ’with fine yeast’.

I can’t express how much this dissapointed me, hefeweizen is one of my favorite styles, and I expected this to taste at least like one of them with some dunkel characteristics. I was damn wrong, this reminded me most of a watered down porter with some really slight hints of bananas/cloves. Oh, well, I guess this isn’t the best dunkelweizen there is.

16.9 oz bottle(out of my Erdinger Weissbrau glass)-Pours a medium black body with a nice off white head and an aroma of chcoloate, wheat, and caramel. Taste of malt and caramel with a nice chocolate aftertaste. No resemblance of any hefe characteristics. Was expecting a lot more from the color.

(on bottle) A very plesant aroma indeed. Has tones of rotten apple(in the good sense)caramel, dried fruits and some alcohol. And thats about it, the brew has just about no taste and a very weak finish, some caramel there....no, sorry, no taste there.

Deep red black; Head diminished quickly; faint, faint nose. Great mouthfeel. Quite Schwarz like. Good effervescence. Bad marks for aroma and appearance.

Dark brown with reddish hues and thick tan head that quickly recedes. Spicy aroma of dark bread, with a hint of banana. Taste is rich and chewy, and starts quite malty, and surprisingly bitter for a weizen. Starts moderately bitter, slightly sweet, and moderately acidic. Dense carbonation with a slightly heavy mouthfeel. Well balanced, but a bit too mellow to be an excellent example of the style.

I was a bit let down by this one, It was very carbonated, and flavor was a bit lacking, Mine had a bit of a white wine flavor to it. not bad by any means, and I am a weissbier fan, but this one is a bit different.

Milky brown with a medium light tan head. Aroma of light chocolate and wheat. Flavor of sweet & dark malts, wheat and nuts. Creamy texture. A bit different from the other dunkleweizens I had tried to this point – no banana or clove qualities. More like a Dunkel crossed with an American wheat beer.

Bottle from Beers of Europe. Dark brown colour with a tan, long lasting head. Aroma is light cloves and bananas, same for the taste, also lightly malty. Very foamy and smooth, nice mouthfeel. It’s not my favourite Dunkelweizen, but it’s pretty good and goes down well.
