Commercial Description:
Bottle conditioned.
Ingredients: Water; wheat malt; barley malt; roasted malt; hops; yeast.
A wheat beer from the good old days.
Erdinger Weissbier ’dark’ is a rich and smooth wheat beer specialty from Erdinger Weissbräu. It owes its full-bodied flavor to the fine hops and dark malt used in its production.
The dark beer specialty is brewed according to an age-old recipe. Its spicy flavor also results from the increased proportion (about 13%) of original wort. Nonetheless, at 5.6%, it doesn’t contain much more alcohol than Erdinger Weissbier ’with fine yeast’.

500ml bottle -pours a big foamy to rocky light tan head and brown color. Aroma is medium malt-caramel, dark fruit, secondary hops, cardboard (maybe helps explain the big head). Taste is medium malt-caramel, dark fruit, light faint hops, cardboard, slight spice, some yeast-banana. Light side of medium body. Mild carbonation.

Pours a murky, deep mahogany with a large, rocky, khaki head. Sparse, dripping lacework. The nose is chocolatey and roasty with notes of maple syrup, sourmash and whole grain bread. Malty, rich, nutty flavor. Medium-bodied and creamy with soft carbonation. Short, lightly sweet, roasted finish.

dark brown colour, giant creamy head, buttery, banana aroma, sweet and smooth, thin-bodied, the finish is quite neutral and short - no character

Re-rate: deep brown appearance with a bubbly head. Kind of reminded me of wheat beer version of Tooheys Old in the end, smooth, some dark malts, drinkable, light, a bit watery, but quite nice, my favourite of the Erdinger beers. Although i haven’t had the ’Champ’ yet.

Stupendously huge head, near gushing, light-greige in colour, over mahogany to ebony beer. Soft sweet nose with coffee and coloured malts, horse fodder, malt- or café noir cookies, speculoos, sweet leaf vegetable as misuna. Licorice flavour; faintly bready, quite sweet but not as typically confectionary like most Bocks. Maybe a bit of banana, overripe, but remarkably restrained on fruitiness; cloves or other spices all but absent. Rather light bodied, no burning in the MF - and no acidity neither. A tad too sweet to my liking, but not as stereotypic as most of its brethren. Not something to go hunting for, but if you come across it, don’t waste the opportunity.

A fizzy dark brown beer, with fruitty taste. Not quite my beer. seems like a cross between a weissbier and an ale.

Bottled, 500ml. Dark brown to copper with cream head. Not the heavy flavours that I would expect from this type of beer, some spicyness, banana from the wheat but a slightly dull, dark malt body reduces the experience. A smidgeon of hops in the close, again not enought to raise it to a great beer, but it was ok.

Nice dark appearance. Malty aroma. Yeasty typical dark wheat flavour. Very uninteresting.
