Aroma is somewhat spicy, malty, chocolatey. Mouthfeel is over-carbonated to the extreme, tastes chocolatey, cocoa malt, wheat, nice slow bitter finish. Would be better if it weren’t for the bottle carbonation. Cobra (1066), In a van, down by the river, Maryland, USA

At the end of it’s useful life then. I will make sure I bring that to the attention of the store where I bought it. Poured out a deep chocolate brown color, with a fast fading tan colored head. Aromas are almost non-existant, since this sample is so old. Slight yeastiness is all I can pick out. Tastes are rather blah. Not much in the way of malts, hops, or yeast characteristics. Sorry, this sample was a drain pour. Maybe I’ll rerate it when I can find a MUCH fresher sample. probstk (1060), Nepean, Ontario, Canada

App.: Murky deep cola brown a moderate off-white head.
Aroma: Minty herbals, dark dried fruits, sweet cherries, bubblegum esters, slightly tangy fruitiness, a bit of yeast and bread dough.
Palate: Medium body and somewhat sparse effervescence.
Flav.: Less than the nose, still some minty herbals, more yeast, a bit of dark dried fruit and caramel, much less esters (still present), slightly woody; a little off-dry, very low bitterness with a bit of lingering brown sugar.
Nice stuff, a bit disappointing in the mouth. jb (1053), Rochester, New York, USA

Some nice chocalate and biscuity notes in there too. Light creamy palate, was sweet. Had a watery finish. A subpar dunkeweizen I thought, but I’ll give it the benefit of the doubt because I had it after a spicy pumpkin ale and it was hard to taste the subtle dunkel. obguthr (1052), Poquoson, Virginia, USA

Ridiculously thick tan head even with a careful pour. Mahogany color. Watery and metallic chocolate taste. Caramel finish with grass on the edge. Fairly unique and my rating reflects that. I could do without the metallic taste. pootzboy (1048), Hawgville, Ontario, Canada

Poured a lush cloudy mahogany red with a big frothy off-white meringue cap. Light but steady effervescence. Aromas of dried fruits currants, prunes mingle with cinnamon and cloves....wonderful nose on this beer. Starts bold with a wack of sweet toasty malt then builds to a creamy mouth feel punctuated with subtle banana, spices and other ester tastes as malts and yeasts mingle on the tongue. Then the finish is fairly clean for such a dark beer.....wet with little more than a sweet malt after taste. This is a good import beer and a very drinkable representastion of the dunkelweizen style . I like it and will always have a bottle or two around. cking (1041), North Canton, Ohio, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | May 21, 2007 Rated 7/3/06: Newly stocked item at a local store, picked up a single. Even with the glass tilted an enormous fluffy head sat atop a dark cola colored beer. After a few minutes the head settled and a nice looking glass of beer sat in front of me. Nice and aromatic sweet yeasty scents are easily detected. This one is definately different from the other hefe’ and dunkel-weizens where as it doesn’t seem to contain a large presence of banana and clove esters. Although unique it is still very appealing. Mouthfeel is better than average, very smooth but somewhat dry. Flavor is good and surprisingly mellow for this style. Seems balanced and the sweetness from the aroma carries through. Not the best I’ve sampled but well worth picking up. austone (1039), Turku; Pori, Finland

Flavor is softly roasted and wheaty with little coffee and cocoa. Smoooth. Medium bodied, a bit spritzy carbonation. Very schwartzbier like dunkelweizen, I like that roastiness.
