Commercial Description:
Bottle conditioned.
Ingredients: Water; wheat malt; barley malt; roasted malt; hops; yeast.
A wheat beer from the good old days.
Erdinger Weissbier ’dark’ is a rich and smooth wheat beer specialty from Erdinger Weissbräu. It owes its full-bodied flavor to the fine hops and dark malt used in its production.
The dark beer specialty is brewed according to an age-old recipe. Its spicy flavor also results from the increased proportion (about 13%) of original wort. Nonetheless, at 5.6%, it doesn’t contain much more alcohol than Erdinger Weissbier ’with fine yeast’.

(GERMAN) Pours a very dark brown almost black in color with a lg-tan head. The aroma is of dark malts and wheat. Taste kind of has a roasted almond flavor. There is some nice carbonation, but finishes a bit on the watery side. I still think this dunkel would go very nice with a meal.

Dark brown colour. Thick beige, creamy head. Aroma from brown sugar and yeast. Sweet caramel flavour with notes of liquorice. Malty, earthy. Medium bodied. Medium bitterness.

Little aroma, little flavour, notes of banana and vanilla barely discernable. Small amount of roastiness/toffee. Body was a bit thin, though it held a good head. Drinkable but uninspiring.

500ml bottle with a best by date of October 2009. Nice dark brown color, small head. Smells decent and malty but not much like a hefe. The flavor is nice and malty but i get no clove or bubblegum nor banana that I usually get from a hefeweissen. I need to drink more dunkelweizens to get a good feel for the style. Nice looking beer, very dark with a weak head. But the flavor is kinda weak, it’s got a roasted bitterness to it, but the carbonation doesn’t blend well.

Pours dark slightly hazed brown with a 3 finger dusty tan head. Aroma is caramel, dark breads, sweet malt, toast, banana and a little plum. Flavor is toasted crusty wheat bread, heavily spiced banana bread, clove, vanilla and caramel. Hints of raw yeast, candied fruit and overripe apple to finish.

Looks watery; like murky tea with a dirty-white head. Faint, but pleasant sweet aroma. Basically tastes like a smoked Hefe-Weiss, with a pleasant malty aftertaste.

Great rounded flavor, nice beer to just sit around with. I wish this were still available around here, but apparently the distributer decided that retirement made more sense than anything else. Oh well, sweet aroma/flavor, nice head when poured. I really enjoy erdinger.
