Commercial Description:
Bottle conditioned.
Ingredients: Water; wheat malt; barley malt; roasted malt; hops; yeast.
A wheat beer from the good old days.
Erdinger Weissbier ’dark’ is a rich and smooth wheat beer specialty from Erdinger Weissbräu. It owes its full-bodied flavor to the fine hops and dark malt used in its production.
The dark beer specialty is brewed according to an age-old recipe. Its spicy flavor also results from the increased proportion (about 13%) of original wort. Nonetheless, at 5.6%, it doesn’t contain much more alcohol than Erdinger Weissbier ’with fine yeast’.

550ml - Gravity Beer Market - Olympia, WA
Aroma – Nice dark Hefe malt aroma with very little hops.
Appearance – Dark Brown in color, Nice head and slight hazy grain look.
Flavor – Very nice dark wheat beer. Lots of wheat malt flavor this was very nice and subtle with the flavors.
Palate – Good Mouthfeel, Crisp texture with a nice dry finish.
Overall – One of the better dark Hefe’s I have ever had . The flavor was thick like a Dunkel. A very nice beer for the night.

Sweet bubble gum and tart aroma. Almost black colored with nice brown foam. Little bit of bland start, turns out to have nicely hopped and carbonated crispy ending. Some chocolate in aftertaste too. Based on aroma and appearance I expected this to be more bodied, that was little disappointment, still very nicely hopped and refreshing dunkelweizen.

I thought this was a marvelous dunkel hefe-weizen. Sweeter grains / malts on the nose, followed by a consistent flavor heading toward a marzen or lighter bock taste. A richer yet medium coffee / cola color, white to tan head that settles and not too cloudy of body.

Pours out a dark brown with a lighter brown head. Wheaty malty goodness throughout, with a touch of roastyness. Slighty sours toward the end. A rather enjoyable beer.

Bottle. The colour is dark brown with a tint of red. The liquid is very cloudy. The head is enormous and it dissolves slowly into a very firm cone of pale brown foam.

The smell is quite gentle with sour notes of caramel, some hops and a roasted touch of tar.

The carbonation is mild, yet fresh with small bubbles.

The taste is soft with sour notes, but I also noticed some sweetness, a mild hop aroma and a slightly roasted touch of hard toffee. The body was surprisingly good for a wheat beer. The aftertaste is clean, burned with notes of French loaf.

A nice beer, that accompanies Spanish Tapas in a fantastic way, a combination that I really recommend!

Bottle labeled as hefewiezen dark -pours dark brown with a nice creamy tan head that stays pretty well and laces some on the Weizen. Aromas of clove, bannana, caramel, molasses, and even a little bubblegum. Flavor is caramel, chocolate, cloves, bannana, molasses. Leans more towards the fruity side but quite pleasant. Good medium body with a fair amount of carbonation which gives it a soft mouthfeel and a pretty clean feeling palate.

Pours dark brown, beige head not much retention. Aroma of malt, yeast and dark fruit. Good carbonation. Flavours chocolate and dark fruits I like it.

Pours dark ebony with a soft beige head. Creamy on the palate, not very dry, with a light roastiness, mild clove banana and smooth wheat and molasses finish. This really didn’t go over the top with yeast esters, which made this a much more mellow beer, while not as thirst quenching as the really dry and crisp dunkelweizens this is more of a smooth and creamy brew.
