Commercial Description:
Bottle conditioned.
Ingredients: Water; wheat malt; barley malt; roasted malt; hops; yeast.
A wheat beer from the good old days.
Erdinger Weissbier ’dark’ is a rich and smooth wheat beer specialty from Erdinger Weissbräu. It owes its full-bodied flavor to the fine hops and dark malt used in its production.
The dark beer specialty is brewed according to an age-old recipe. Its spicy flavor also results from the increased proportion (about 13%) of original wort. Nonetheless, at 5.6%, it doesn’t contain much more alcohol than Erdinger Weissbier ’with fine yeast’.

I can’t believe I haven’t rated this yet. I used to drink this when I lived in NC 11 yrs ago. I didn’t have it again until last week. Nice rich malty dunkel with a respectable dry finish. Not too sweet like many other dark lagers.

Pours a huge head with a thin body at the bottom of the glass. After waiting almost 20 minutes for it to settle out and finish pouring, aromas of citrus, yogurt, berries and spice pop out. Tastes of bananas, nuts, grapes, and some peppery notes. Thick mouthfeel, though the finish isn’t as balanced as I’m used to in a dunkleweizen. A bit too nutty with a weird yogurt-like aftertase but very drinkable and nice.

Bottled from Aachen. Perfect looks, Very dark, hazy, with thick foamy head and voluptuous lacing. Very nicely composed beer merging the Dunkels and Weizens. mix of sweet and sour with soft bitterness. Nice!

Dark murky color, similar to coffee. Lots of head. Hint of coffee, lots of chocolate flavor, hint of rootbeer.

500ml bottle with a best by date of October 2009. Nice dark brown color, small head. Smells decent and malty but not much like a hefe. The flavor is nice and malty but i get no clove or bubblegum nor banana that I usually get from a hefeweissen. I need to drink more dunkelweizens to get a good feel for the style. Bottle. I was expecting something like Aventinus and I was a bit disappointed. Almost like a cross between a weissbier and a stout.
