Commercial Description:
Bottle conditioned.
Ingredients: Water; wheat malt; barley malt; roasted malt; hops; yeast.
A wheat beer from the good old days.
Erdinger Weissbier ’dark’ is a rich and smooth wheat beer specialty from Erdinger Weissbräu. It owes its full-bodied flavor to the fine hops and dark malt used in its production.
The dark beer specialty is brewed according to an age-old recipe. Its spicy flavor also results from the increased proportion (about 13%) of original wort. Nonetheless, at 5.6%, it doesn’t contain much more alcohol than Erdinger Weissbier ’with fine yeast’.

Dark muddy brown with a fizzy off-white head and virtually no lacing. The nose is complex and warming with notes of iron, alcohol, roasted malt, and licorice. The body is a tad thin but is malty and a little sweet. Short, clean finish.

Banana, cloves, and wheat in the aroma. Dark, cloudy brown with a large white head. Looks like I’m drinking water from the Mississippi. Flavor of gentle wheat and a very nice malt taste. The malt is similar in aroma and flavor to an abt. Somewhat sweet.

0.5 l bottle. Very dark and cloudy, off white head. Aroma not very pronounced and subdued for a weizen. Malty, slightly chocolatey flavor. Fizzy.

Bottle from Stirchley Wines and Spirits, Birmingham. Looks superb - dark, leathery, with a thick beige head, which is good and tall. Mmm smells good too; chocolate and wine aroma - sweet and tart. Very tasty, but mixed up beer. Loses balance and cohesion: the sweetness, coffee and wheat don't completely hang together - each is pleasant and adds up to a good experience, but this is not perfect. Dryness in the medium length finish. A good Dunkel weizen, but varied.

Opaque black pour with a thin white head. Roasted malt aroma. Semi-sweet malt taste with notes of chocolate and bread. Very clean, light finish. Nice.

Roasty dark fruit and banana aroma. Opaque brown with thin, tan head that recedes to ring. Flavour is mostly roasty with a slight sweetness but none of the fruitiness suggested by the aroma. Nice medium-full wheat mouthfeel and strong carbonation. Bottle enjoyed with MartinT and Rastacouere.

Bottle. Molasses, spicy grainy aromas. Some sweetness. Quite light and refreshing - perhaps overly so.

Bottled. Big tan head on top of a cloudy brown body. Aroma dominated by clove and yeast like dough, light banana and fruit with some warmth(apple). Medium-full body, light, lasting blip of dry, foamy carbonation, very dry finish...watery with warmth. Flavor is bitter, caramel malts, light clove, hint of banana...front is "bleh...uh...flavor coming soon..." and then the previous description ensues with the addition of some nice friuty notes like apples, berries, peach, some metal flavor in the front. Overall rather nice, flavor is kind of "off" with the metal sneaking in and no real front on it, some kind of gross alcohol in the finish with warmth, but a generally nice finish to be certain: a malty, balanced finish of fruit. First dark wheat and I will try some more as I think I’ll like the dark wheat over regular wheat. yucky bad flavors, but they be few and weak.
