Commercial Description:
Bottle conditioned.
Ingredients: Water; wheat malt; barley malt; roasted malt; hops; yeast.
A wheat beer from the good old days.
Erdinger Weissbier ’dark’ is a rich and smooth wheat beer specialty from Erdinger Weissbräu. It owes its full-bodied flavor to the fine hops and dark malt used in its production.
The dark beer specialty is brewed according to an age-old recipe. Its spicy flavor also results from the increased proportion (about 13%) of original wort. Nonetheless, at 5.6%, it doesn’t contain much more alcohol than Erdinger Weissbier ’with fine yeast’.

Bottled. Dark, dark brown with a pretty big, medium persistence off white head. Straight, simple, clean and smooth wheaty chocolate malt flavour, little else to speak of. Pretty good, but very simple.

Pours a dark drown to almost black color. Much darker then typical dark wheat German beers. The smell is malty with hints of chocoalte. Traces of what I describe as soapy or almost chalk qualites. The smell was a little tame overall. The taste is more prominant. Reflections of coco and dark liquorish are noticeable. I also picked up on some nutmeg flavors which gives it a slight breadiness quality to it. The body was light and slightly water down and is a deterrent to the beer.

Dark brown color with thick creamy head. Had a sweet aroma with hints of caramel and chocolate. Had a nice nutty sweet finish to it. Pretty damn good.

(bottle 03-2009): Pours a dark reddish body. Brownish head, creamy & lasting, and pretty big. Malty, somewhat banany aroma, grapey. Not too strong an aroma. Somewhat banana, dusty taste. More body than a hefeweizen. Nutty.
