Commercial Description:
Bottle conditioned.
Ingredients: Water; wheat malt; barley malt; roasted malt; hops; yeast.
A wheat beer from the good old days.
Erdinger Weissbier ’dark’ is a rich and smooth wheat beer specialty from Erdinger Weissbräu. It owes its full-bodied flavor to the fine hops and dark malt used in its production.
The dark beer specialty is brewed according to an age-old recipe. Its spicy flavor also results from the increased proportion (about 13%) of original wort. Nonetheless, at 5.6%, it doesn’t contain much more alcohol than Erdinger Weissbier ’with fine yeast’.

Brown color; small lingering head. Aroma of caramel and dark malts, slight banana and nuts. Flavor matches aroma with notes of wood, carob, bread and very slight bitter chocolate, coffee, minerals and tropical fruit. Not too heavy but flavorful.

Deep ruby brown with a frothy tan head. Dry dark malt, mild cocoa, and tropical fruit aromas. Light/medium body with a frothy mouthfeel. Nice yeasty flavor with tart wheat, light roasty nuts, with mild cocoa. Easy drinking, not too bad.

Gigantic bubbly tan-colored head that leaves foam on the glass and finally settles into a thick layer of microscopic bubbles. A cascade of bubbles rose up in a steady stream from the bottom of the glass. Aroma is predominantly wheat, but is balanced with sweet, malty and slightly hoppy elements. Wheat, malt, yeast, and spices are the main components of the flavor, with hints of hops and fruit.

[347-20070618] Tap @ BeerBistro (Toronto, ON). Faintly malty aroma. Dark brown body has a creamy off-white head and some lacing. Flavour hints at sweet caramel and malt. Full body is smooth. Very nicely blended, refreshing. (5/4/7/4/14) 3.4

[756B-20071013] Tap @ West 50 (Mississauga, ON). Faint bit of yeast aroma. Hazy, dark brown amber body with a long-lasting creamy off-white head. Bit of bubblegum malt flavour and generic pear-like fruit. Smooth medium body. Nice and smooth. (6/4/7/4/14) 3.5

Smells unsurprisingly yeasty and wheaty, with only hints of malt. Pours a murky dark brown with some floaties if you hold it up to a light. Great looking head with big ol bubbles. After warming up a little it has some nice caramel and hints of chocolate in the typical crisp and wheaty hefe body. I got it from BevMo and got it because the tag for it said WEIZEN BOCK so I was looking forward to that but it must’ve been labeled wrong. I like this more than the Ayinger but only slightly. It has a slightly bigger body but it’s still pretty light like you’d expect a wheat beer to be. Nice price at $2.59 for the bottle.
