Commercial Description:
Bottle conditioned.
Ingredients: Water; wheat malt; barley malt; roasted malt; hops; yeast.
A wheat beer from the good old days.
Erdinger Weissbier ’dark’ is a rich and smooth wheat beer specialty from Erdinger Weissbräu. It owes its full-bodied flavor to the fine hops and dark malt used in its production.
The dark beer specialty is brewed according to an age-old recipe. Its spicy flavor also results from the increased proportion (about 13%) of original wort. Nonetheless, at 5.6%, it doesn’t contain much more alcohol than Erdinger Weissbier ’with fine yeast’.

bottle from an indy beer seller, poured a dark dark golden brown with a big head, very lively in the glass. fine aroma of malt which leads to a full mouthful of chocolate malt and fruit cake, sweetness of agood imperial stout. long finish, more sweetness at the end but no bitterness and very smooth

Dark brown. Enormous rocky head. notmuch aroma. some roastiness that reminds me of a porter. don’t detect much wheat flavors though; nevertheless, this one was enjoyable. i liked it more than the pikantus.

Bottled. Black opaque, big beige bubbly head. Sweet caramel, yeast and wheat in aroma, very pleasant. Plummy and yeasty flavour with a bit soapish hints. Rich carbonation. Pretty watery palate.

Gigantic bubbly tan-colored head that leaves foam on the glass and finally settles into a thick layer of microscopic bubbles. A cascade of bubbles rose up in a steady stream from the bottom of the glass. Aroma is predominantly wheat, but is balanced with sweet, malty and slightly hoppy elements. Wheat, malt, yeast, and spices are the main components of the flavor, with hints of hops and fruit.

Dark brown with a large off-white head. Yeasty and leathery malt aroma. A bit of sweet, dark chocolate in the taste; also a curious but not unpleasant seaside saltiness. A medium bitter close. Quite liked this.

Hazy dark brown with a thick tan head. Not much lace. Smells of over ripe banana. Rich wheat malt. Bready. Spicy clove and pepper in the nose. Flavor mirrors the nose. Ripe banana, bready wheat malt, sweet and sticky and spicy pepper and clove flavors. a lemony finish and sticky in the mouth. Pretty good stuff if not overly complex.

0.5L Bottle Served in proper Erdinger Glassware - Large creamy off-white head atop a dark chocolatey brown body. Not much aroma, but some maltiness and possibly a little coffee. Medium body with some coffee, caramel, and grain tones with a slight initial sweetness that slowly turns a little bitter/dry for the finish. No long-lasting aftertaste. Quite enjoyable.
