Commercial Description:
Bottle conditioned.
Ingredients: Water; wheat malt; barley malt; roasted malt; hops; yeast.
A wheat beer from the good old days.
Erdinger Weissbier ’dark’ is a rich and smooth wheat beer specialty from Erdinger Weissbräu. It owes its full-bodied flavor to the fine hops and dark malt used in its production.
The dark beer specialty is brewed according to an age-old recipe. Its spicy flavor also results from the increased proportion (about 13%) of original wort. Nonetheless, at 5.6%, it doesn’t contain much more alcohol than Erdinger Weissbier ’with fine yeast’.

Pours a deep, dark brown with a huge head which collapses to a quarter-inch head with great retention and some lace. Slightly skunky lagerish aroma - light butter, light toastiness, and as it warms, a nice spiciness. Tastes surprisingly pleasant - I don’t normally like this style of beer. Sweet and buttery with a light molasses touch, but with a nice strong & smooth malt backbone. Light metallic taste to the hops, particularly in the finish. A bit undercarbonated, but a good creamy milkshake of a body. I don’t dislike this beer. Would go well with a steak.

Bottle. First "hefe weizen -dark" as the label shows. Pours a dark brown, near black with a thick offwhite head. Poured in a weizen glass. A little spice, banana flavorings. Intersting texture, its dark, but drinks fairly light and smooth, almost water-like. I over-expected on this, hoping for a more pronouced flavor, especially after having a simple Widmer Hefe earlier in the day.

Chocolate and bananas. Nice combination. The best I’ve had from this brewery. A little simple though.

Pours dark brown with light tan head. Roasted caramel malt aroma. Sweet toasted malt flavor with mild hops and some clove. Medium body with average carbonation. I enjoyed this one more than their hefe-weizen.

pours rich brown with the considerable head expect from a wheat beer. Carbonation dissipates rapidly. The flavour is somewhat lacking. It lacks the richness and complexity of others. The mouthfeel is decent and it does have the wheaty flavour with a hint of spice. Overally was dissapointed.
