Commercial Description:
Bottle conditioned.
Ingredients: Water; wheat malt; barley malt; roasted malt; hops; yeast.
A wheat beer from the good old days.
Erdinger Weissbier ’dark’ is a rich and smooth wheat beer specialty from Erdinger Weissbräu. It owes its full-bodied flavor to the fine hops and dark malt used in its production.
The dark beer specialty is brewed according to an age-old recipe. Its spicy flavor also results from the increased proportion (about 13%) of original wort. Nonetheless, at 5.6%, it doesn’t contain much more alcohol than Erdinger Weissbier ’with fine yeast’.

Chocolate and bananas. Nice combination. The best I’ve had from this brewery. A little simple though.

Bottle. A lovely dark pour and with a big white head. Plenty of wheat in the aroma. However the taste is bit of a let down no real flavours hit you.

Not too strong a taste makes it a bit easier to drink, good head and not as gassy as other wiessbiers.

Pours a deep brown colour, with a reasonably thick brown head. Nose is lots of dark fruits. Plenty of raisins, and just a hint of dark chocolate. Flavour is fruity, but not like a fruit beer, just fruity. There is also a lot of spicyness which I would assume to be wheat. Also a hint of banana and maybe some cloves, although, I may just be imagining that part because I think it should be there possibly. Mouthfeel is not too bad, there is some body to it, and the carbonation is not too strong. Reasonably light drinking for a dark beer too. Not bad,

(Bottle). Hazy dark brown with a medium white head. Aroma of banana, malt, and some hints of grains and cherry. Malty flavour with some yeast, and also sweet. Medium body and well balanced. Very refreshing.

This stuff is really pleasant; I could see this as a good all-night beer. Not very hoppy or bitter at all. Just smooth maltiness, cocoa, and cream all slightly roasted, though not as full as a porter. Overall not world class, but very good.

Milky brown with a medium light tan head. Aroma of light chocolate and wheat. Flavor of sweet & dark malts, wheat and nuts. Creamy texture. A bit different from the other dunkleweizens I had tried to this point – no banana or clove qualities. More like a Dunkel crossed with an American wheat beer.
