Commercial Description:
Bottle conditioned.
Ingredients: Water; wheat malt; barley malt; roasted malt; hops; yeast.
A wheat beer from the good old days.
Erdinger Weissbier ’dark’ is a rich and smooth wheat beer specialty from Erdinger Weissbräu. It owes its full-bodied flavor to the fine hops and dark malt used in its production.
The dark beer specialty is brewed according to an age-old recipe. Its spicy flavor also results from the increased proportion (about 13%) of original wort. Nonetheless, at 5.6%, it doesn’t contain much more alcohol than Erdinger Weissbier ’with fine yeast’.

Dark brown clouded liquid. The nose is fruity with hints of tobacco, chocolate and molasses. The body is solid with a malty front - hints of molasses and brown sugar. It quickly thins and fades. Just a touch sweet, but not a bad dunkelweizen.

Oily plantanes lie beneath heavy earthy malts and herbal tea leaves...Creamy cloves and strong roasty malt simplicity...Mundanity restrains it seems...

I actually own an Erdinger Weibbier glass, in which I used in consuming this Dunkle. This is another beer that’s best quality is unfortunately it’s initial appearance. This beer poured a beautiful crimson / black, with a soft pillow like head. Sadly to say the head dissipated quickly due to the beers lack of body. This could be a great dunkel if the palate was a bit creamer. But as it is, this brew is fairly watery. In the aroma and flavor the malt is most obvious, the wheat in the slightly bitter finish. Overall, this was an uneventful Dunkel, very much unlike my favorite, Julius Echter Dunkel.

Bottle. Quite dark, large head. Semi-sweet taste, not so interesting.

Dark brown pour. Heady beige foam atop. Spices, peat, and roasted malts in the nose. Flavours include sweet candy malts, a subtle spiceyness, with mild earthy peaty flavours in the finish. Medium light bodied, with a somewhat watery finish. No trace of the ABV. Pretty good Dunkel.

Bottle. Poured tan with bubbly biege head that disappeared quickly and left hardly any lacing on my weizen glass, which usually picks up heaps of lace. Aroma dominated by caramel malt. Similar with the taste, smooth and mild with a slight coffee finish. Easy drinkin and uncomplicated for a dark beer.

Big head on this beer and a good, dark aroma. There is a malty flavor with a little bit of metallic and spicy hop flavor in the aftertaste. Good wheat beer. Better than it’s lighter brother.

Dark brown pour, tan/white head. Malt smell, but lakes the wheat smell of a hefe. Sweet malt flavor, hint of banana bread, but again lacks the qualities of a hefe. Good beer.
