Commercial Description:
Bottle conditioned.
Ingredients: Water; wheat malt; barley malt; roasted malt; hops; yeast.
A wheat beer from the good old days.
Erdinger Weissbier ’dark’ is a rich and smooth wheat beer specialty from Erdinger Weissbräu. It owes its full-bodied flavor to the fine hops and dark malt used in its production.
The dark beer specialty is brewed according to an age-old recipe. Its spicy flavor also results from the increased proportion (about 13%) of original wort. Nonetheless, at 5.6%, it doesn’t contain much more alcohol than Erdinger Weissbier ’with fine yeast’.

After the Erdinger Hefeweizen this was much more of what I expected. Very flavourful. Aroma more pleasant than just yeast. More of an exciting beverage than just the standard German Wheat.

Pours a five finger light tan head that fades quickly to a thin layer and leaves traces of lace. Cloudy amber color, yeast left in bottle. Light-medium carbonation and medium bodied. Mostly malty nose. Flavor is malty, sweet, hints of yeast. Clean finish. Nice hefe. $3.99 for a 500ml bottle from Capitol Convenience Concord, NH.

creamy. Easy drink but not one that distinguished itself. Some aroma there including cocoa. Bit of different flavours, including nuts but altogether on the thin mouthfeel side. Roast and also a tad burnt wheat. Malty more than anything.

500ml bottle from Tacoma Boys Market. Huge head on the pour, but dissipated rather quickly. Enticing aromas of bread, clove, and maple/caramel. Not overly sweet or hoppy, this is a perfect example of the style, and I love this style. No, it’s not done often enough in my opinion. If it’s going to be ’hefe’, make mine a dunkel.

I do not like to rate a Weizen like this, but this was very flavorless, maybe I ate soemthing before that interfiered with the degustation. BUt could be better.

Bottle from Brewery Creek poured into a Schneider Flaschengarung. Clear mahogany brown with good carbonation and a two-finger, cappuccino head. Moderate clove and banana nose with vanilla and bready malt. Low banana and clove flavor with moderate vanilla, caramel, and some breadiness; medium malty richness; low hop bitterness; slightly sweet palate with low tart citrus and relatively dry finish. A good example of a classic Dunkelweizen.

Another beer that can be included in the ’serious session’ list. Breaks up the lager and placed right can really prolong your drinking over a night.
