Pretty much a solid black pour. It doesn’t let any light through but there is a faintly noticeable brown tint to the color. The head starts of as a big, fluffy, 2-finger off-white color and fades quickly to a thin loose ring of lacing on the glass. The aroma smells like oatmeal raisin cookies with notes of biscuit, rolled oats, brown sugar, a little smoky burnt malt and a touch of dark fruit. The flavor is lots more biscuit and rolled oats with lots of raisin and a touch of brown sugar and smokiness on the finish. The body is creamy with a medium-thin mouth feel and low carbonation.

Has a clear dark ruby pour that is very dark at the edges – dark brown, almost black, made a (small) tan colored head, aromas of roasted grains and malt, dry bitter chocolate, coffee, faint whiffs of smoke in the background, flavors of roasted malt, coffee and dry chocolate with some sweetness on the palate (not a lot though), mouth feel is around medium, the aroma and flavor comes across as a mix of Porter / Stout, lots of roasted malt on the nose and palate, I enjoyed this beer but it appears to be out of style abit for a Altbier.

The aroma is nice with roasted malt, toffee, caramel, cereal, and hay. The appearance is dark brown with a tan head. The flavor is like the aroma but has an astringent bitterness do to an almost burnt taste. The palate is average. Overall this is a decent beer but just doesn’t impress me much.

Poured a dark brown color with small tan head that lasted pretty long. Not really much of an aroma, just some light roasted notes. Good flavors of roasted malt, chocolate, caramel, and coffee. Was a bit too thin. This was more of a porter than an altbier IMO.

Draft at Redlight Redlight. The pour yields a very dark, chestnut brown body with a small, spongy head of tan foam. The aroma is unique for an alt, showing a healthy amount of cocoa roast and toasted caramel malt, with a surprisingly staunch dosing of earthy hops adding good balance. Flavors follow suit, again showing considerably more cocoa tha most alts I’ve tried, with hints of coffee and burnt caramel, and a good amount of earthy hop bitterness. The body is substantial and creamy, well balanced, showing a smooth, lightly nutty, roasted finish. Good brew, even if it is a bit out of character for the style.

tap @ OTH. Pours brown, off white head. Reminded me a lot of a porter. Aroma, strong roasted malt nose, some light chocolate. Flavor, similar to aroma, roasted malts, grainy, medium carbonation, mocha / chocolate mouthfeel, light bitter hop finish.

Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured a black color with a large dark brown head - looks quite like a stout. The aroma was bitter, roasty and malty with notes of chocolate and vanilla. The flavor was dryish, bitter and roasty with moderate coffee and a touch of cocoa. The finish was medium length, dry, bitter and roasty. The body was fairly thick and full. Much more like a stout than an alt.

Draft at RedLight. Very dark brown. Small tan head. Plenty of roasty chocolate, bittersweetness, and some woodsy notes. Very stout-like for an alt. Medium body, smooth. Solid brew, not really an altbier though.
