| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Dec 1, 2009 Dark red-orange in color with a small head that fades quickly to a creamy ring. Interesting beady bubbles in the froth. Aroma is subdued even after being warmed. Could I have lost some sense of smell from cask-strength whisky I just nosed? . . . naahh. Weak malty scotch ale aroma. Medium-full body. Not very sweet. Bitter, creamy palate and light carbonation. Lasting oily, bitter, roasty finish. Maybe I got a bad bottle. . . or a good bottle of scotch. glennmastrange (857), hobe sound, Florida, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Dec 1, 2009 Bottle. Moderate malt notes of caramel, toasted and cookie, light to moderate hops of resin and cooked orange, light dough for the yeast, and big background note of brown sugar and a hint of coconut. Head is small, creamy, off-white with some lacing and is almost fully diminishing. Color is murky brown. Flavor starts heavily sweet and lightly acidic, then finishes lightly sweet and bitter. Palate is medium, creamy almost syrupy, with a lively carbonation. I reallly enjoyed the distinct and unique aromas of this excellent Scotch Ale, thanks Hopscotch! | 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Nov 21, 2009 Rich, malty caramel aroma with just a hint of leather. Flavor is sweet with a rather flat midpalate and finish. Not bad, but one dimensional flavor. demitriustown (695), Shelby Township, Michigan, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Nov 11, 2009 12 oz bottle: Aroma is carmel malt, toffee, almost a bit soapy, and a rich roasted nutty scent. Appearance is a very dark but clear red with a slightly off white head that lingers. Taste is caramel, nutty, juicy, malt, and the high alcohol content is very well hidden. Palate has got a medium carbonation, goes down with a malt overtone, and a lingering nut and honey finish that is quite pleasing. Overall, Heck I like it. Cheers! jb (1036), Rochester, New York, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Oct 25, 2009 Sweet and malty nose. Predominantly molasses. Reddish brown appearance, thick head. Wow the palate is something, toffee, chewy, malt, not overly cloying. No trace of alcohol. This one is extremely well done, true to style and very underrated, perhaps by hop lovers! | 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Oct 16, 2009 Bottle pour. Smells like sugar being caramelized... sweet with a subtle sour hint. Pours reddish-brown, throwing a slight haze. Head diminishes quickly. Flavor is toffee, honey & hazelnut. Medium body... which is an accomplishment considering abv. Not hot... but definitely sweet, with very little hop backbone. Surprisingly easy drinker (maybe dangerously so). nickd717 (1347), Palo Alto, California, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Oct 14, 2009 On tap at GABF. Wow, this is 10%? And it’s a scotch ale? Pours clear reddish-brown with a small off-white head. Aroma is caramel, nuts, brown sugar, and some fruit. Flavor is sweet caramel malt, brown sugar, nuts, toffee, and a hint of dark fruits. Medium-full with a fairly smooth palate and well-hidden ABV. jzzbassman (846), New Albany, Mississippi, USA
